No guys seriously I swear I ran a mile. It was pretty hard but I did it. My friend ran it with me.

yeah man, i believe you.

even though this phenomena is hard to be proven scientificly
* it cannot be reproduced under controlled conditions
* it cannot be measured by our senses
* there is no consensus of its truth
* it leaves no traces
* imaginary friends are a well studied mental disorder

Ran a mile. That's great. So where did you run it? On a track, trail, street? Do you think you might make running a part of your regular workout? Were you dying to finish? So what was it like?

The REAL question is--how long did it take?

The link you were trying to post behind "without stopping" doesn't seem to be working...

Sidewalk.

Maybe.

Yes.

Hard, but not too bad. My lower back was sore at the end. I think I was was leaning too far forward. I'll have my gf check my posture. She's been in two marathons and thinks 5 miles is a good warmup

Dunno. Probably about 10 minutes. My watch with a stopwatch had the battery die so I couldn't time it.

Two years ago I ran 1 mile in 10 minutes and 1.8 miles in 18 minutes, so 10 minutes per mile seems to be my time.

Just a couple comments.

Concrete is probably the hardest surface you can run on. It can be murder on your joints if you run on it too much. I'd recommend running on a different surface if you can. I do most of my runs on trails. It's a softer surface and it keeps your mind busy avoiding rocks and tree roots so you don't think about how hard you're breathing.

Making running a part of your routine is great. I think running really provides a great fitness base for all other activities.

Dying to finish when you start is normal. It's like paying dues. It will all pay off in a few weeks. Try to visualize a cleansing process.

Lower back pain is also normal when you're starting out. It takes a different kind of strength to stabilize your core while you run. This will also pass in a few weeks. Having your GF check your form isn't a bad idea either.

10 minute mile is very good. don't worry so much about time for now. Don't even take a watch. Your goal for now should be able to complete your run. In a month or so you can start trying to improve your time.

Stretch, stretch, stretch. Calves, Quads, Hamstrings, hip flexors and IT bands after every run.

Get a good pair of running shoes. They're worth it. I go to a specialty running store for my shoes. They put me on a treadmil and evaluated how my foot naturally falls when running and then made sure that I had the best type of shoe for the way I run. It's made a big difference for me.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

so 10 minutes per mile seems to be my time. i thought that was called "jogging."  ;) :D

you still haven't fessed up about your weight loss. i'm guessing you probably ate three of those 1 lb. hungry man dindins when you got home, but that's just a conservative estimate.
