Usually the tropical storms in the western pacific are named with English names alphabetically as they appear.

There is a naming comp in Hong Kong. The selections were completed.

Tai Chi, and 9 other Chinese names are accepted.

It would be interesting to read that the Tai Chi typhoon is coming and hitting Hong Kong etc.

:D

There were over 9000 names submitted. Only ten of them were selected and will be sent to UN.

There were so many names submitted for consideration.

Including dishes in Dim Sum, such as Har Gow (shrimp dumpling), Tsa Sao Bao (BBQ pork dumpling), fish eggs etc.

I was amazed to learn that Tai Chi won the first place in choice.

Tai Chi was used to denote the change of Yin and Yang in the book of change or Yi Jing over 3000 years ago in China.

The characters of the Moon and Sun or symbols of them representing Yin and Yang appeared over 5000 years ago.

I can already hear people making claims that the name was used because of taiji's devastating power...

And it will only knock over trees with weak roots then other storms will say that it just used brute force and that it isnt really a hurricane at all.

Jeepers, guys, I can't be the only one to notice the similarity between a taiji symbol and an aerial photo of a typhoon, can I?
