I read at this page: http://tanglang.lifehome-china.com/tanglang4.html , section 5.2, that there are 8 stances. I know only about horse riding and monkey stance. We have learned a 'cat stance' though it's not listed there.

Could someone please tell me what the other stances are using the photos of this site http://www.northernmantis.com/forms.html . I suggest using the Row = x, Column = y formalism to identifies the images.

These are the basic 9 stances in the whf lineage.... The variations you see of the horse stance slightly turned and open gated, the kneeling step (fighting stance) being higher, lower, wider gate, etc are just that... variations. The foundation is what you see listed. Now each family will do them differently, depending on how they were taught, etc. Stances are a touchy subject for some because some people feel there is a right way and a wrong way to hold a stance. I personally think it depends on the situation. For working out and building strength in the legs and getting your foundation I see nothing wrong with low stances, but a med level is pretty much where you are going to be in fighting aps.
