I usually go to the bookstore and brief thru the books first.

I may come back later.

I compare several books.

Then I buy the book I need.

Do you buy your books from the bookstore or browse via the website and then shop around in the internet to look for bargain including E-bay?

How do you determine what books to buy?

:D

I got both my books from Grandmaster Wei Hsiao Tang from here. The site is a little hard to navigate, but you may find what your looking for.

I am fortunate to live in Portland Oregon. We have a Powell's New and Used books.

Its a city block and 3 stories tall, you can find some real gems in there. Seriously. People will sell old books for next to nothing and the bookstore sells them and double next to nothing so you get a hard to find out of print book for 5 bucks. Its great.

When I was in Taiwan, I used to visit the streets that have vendors that sell collected used books for pennies or by the weight. And yes I was looking for old boxing books.

Nowadays, I visited the book stores in China Town, broadway downtown LA.

I just read an article about Liu Kang Yi in Taiwan.

He spent over 10 years to collect rare boxing books. He is involved with Taiwan Wu Lin mag.

His pride collection is called the 13 Tai Bao Qi Gong. The 13 Tai Bao is from the late Tang dynasty. The Qi Gong set shared common roots with Yi Jing Jing.

The book was written in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty. It survived the wars and even culture revolution in China.

Darn, it would have been me to uncover it. But I reside in the states since 1987.

Seriously, Liu collection of rare boxing books, if all translated into English or Japanese. It would worth over 1 billion US dollars.

It is not my collection. I do not have the burden of translating them.

Phew.!

 :D :)

To me;

The books are priceless.

I heard that Liu is financially strapped.

Anyhow; it is good to know that someone out there is collecting the old MA books.

in english (barnes and noble or borders. Strand in NYC is excellent)
but the local MA store is a better source for hard to find and sometimes out of print books.

For chinese books I check the local Chinatown book stores (need to know the characters for MA as that may be your only clue to the section these books are located in.

Amazon is a great source for out of print books.

Lately have been using www.plumpub.com excellent books but you got to act fast as they sell out quicly. I'm still on a waiting list for some books? :(
