Hi im actually from the Wing Chun forum, but therre is something that I am confused about. What is the difference between Yang and Chen style Tai Chi? These are the main 2 styles arent they?
From what I have heard Chen uses more application, while Yang consists of mainly forms.
Which style is Cheng Man-ching from?
Sorry to come into this site and ask questions that you probably all know and are sick of answering.

Yang and Chen tai chi are two of the five main styles of tai chi. Chen man-ching tai chi comes from Yang style.

Chen generally has lower stances, changes in tempo, and power issuing within the form.

Not to start a flame war or anything, but there actually is, contrary to popular belief, fajing in the Yang style. At the end of each movement(place of fajing in application), there is a fajing, although it is so subtle/small that it is hard to see unless you are really looking for it(some may make it more obvious than others). This is present only in the forms of really advanced or skilled people, otherwise all Yang practitioners would have this fajing and everyone would know about it.
If you ever get a chance to see the videos of Zheng Man Qing doing his form, if you look really hard you can see this fajing in his form.
Without issuing energy in the form, you would first of all develop much slower in your applications skills, and you would barely be working on your qi.
When I first learned the breathing and fajing in the form, I immediatley felt the difference, in terms of power, structure, root, qi, and applications. Not to misrepresent myself--I'm still pretty beginner-level.
Anyways, sorry to rant like this.
