hey,

I'm looking for more info about the origin of the Chinese martial arts and came upon a translation problem..Is there anyone who can tell me the translation of WuYi ? I read somewhere (can't find the link anymore) that that term was actually used before WuShu. They translate WuYi as martial arts and WuShu as martial method. I taught the translation of WuShu was Martial art

Thxs!

Wu Yi is the theory, principles, practices, development of the skills, the arts part etc.

Wu Shu is only the technical part and mastering the techniques.

Together, they are parts of Wu Xue.

Wu Xue is all encompassing. Everything about fighting is called Wu Xue.

Soldiering, tactics, strategy, weapons, warfare etc etc. They are called Bing Xue.

Martial arts sort of mean Wu Yi, Wu Shu, Wu Xue or all of the above.

Xue includes Yi and Shu. Arts are Yi Shu.

Xue also includes life philosophy.

Dao would be the way or the path. From Xue, we know the Dao.

Wu Dao or Bu Do.

If you know the Dao, you then realize the Xue. Yi and Shu are principles and practices or techniques.

Wu Shu-> Wu Yi-> Wu Xue-> Wu Dao-> Dao (about life).
