Meat from a vat (http://www.newsdesk.umd.edu/scitech/release.cfm?ArticleID=1098)
My favorite part of the article:

(quote)"The challenge is getting the texture right," says Matheny. "We have to figure out how to 'exercise' the muscle cells. For the right texture, you have to stretch the tissue, like a live animal would."(endquote)

What a freaky job that would be! Taking disembodied slabs of tissue for 'walkies' to make sure it has a nice grain to it.

huh? mind explain this in english? by the way, This is old news; McDonald’s been doing it for years now...

Of course it says nothing about sparing billions of animals' lives every year.

RoT -

I'm not sure what's confusing you. The article states that the vatmeat would need to be excercized to get proper tone and texture to make it appetizing. Some person or machine would have to do that. I'm proposing (in jest) that it would be a bit like walking a pet dog.

hmm, would the muscle fiber cells already have nerves in them?

if a nervous system could be introduced and grown then electric currents could make the meat move.

{the above statement is copywrited to Matthew M Melton, 2005) ;)
