"Mars has remains of an advanced civilization"

Hardly. Nothing that's been found anyway. There has been life up there though, when there was still an ocean.

But the second link was a good read. You can't just wave off the possibillity that there isn't any intelligent life out there because statisticly it would be crazy to think we are the only one. If we are the only civilisation in space that would be even more amazing. And I also think the possibility that war could not only slow down the process of becoming a 'type 2-3', but even be the thing that puts an end to us all. The writer of that article seem to take light on this:

"Internal problems like wars do pose a serious recurring threat, but they have thousands of years in which to solve racial, national, and sectarian conflicts."

Could mankind really handle thousands of years more with modern warfare? Nuclear and chemical weapons will be more effective and easier to create/use just in our lifetime. Imagine what we come up with next..

The authors examine and approve the theory that our planetary neighbour once held a dense atmosphere and oceans of water but was extinguished with incredible violence by a barrage of rock many thousands of years ago. They also provide an up-to-date, comprehensive and refreshingly balanced review of the photographic evidence regarding the past existence of a Martian civilisation. Equally absorbing is the investigation into NASA's handling of the controversy surrounding the photographs, which included the issuing of false statements. The authors relate this to the history of disinformation policies pursued by American defence institutions.

kind of on topic and something that relates to a current trend is war of the worlds:
