Hi guys,

I've found somewhere that does unflavoured whey protein very cheaply. Its a wholesale place so I have to buy it in 20kg packs but hey, its cheap! What could I use for flavourings? Would you use things like vanilla essence that people put in cakes and stuff? I haven't tried it on its own so I might like it but I've got a feeling, even if I do like it, I'll have to zazz it up after the first kilo or so! Might try blending a banana in it, but I wont always have a blender handy. Any ideas?

Cheers

Try stirring in some powdered or syrup flavoring. Like chocolate or strawberry syrup or powder...or a more healthy alternative is ovaltine powder.

Or, instead of mixing it with water, try mixing it with low-fat or non-fat milk. If it is flavorless protein, it should taste more or less (probably less) like milk.

Or pixy sticks. Add a whole lot of pixy sticks. Grape is my favorite.

I usually go for low-fat milk and honey. Milk and milo works well for me too (usually with a sprinkle of nutmeg and cinnamon right before bed).

Stubbs,
Where can I get this 20 KG unflavored Whey?
Web page or anything?

My flavorings I mix with whey protein:
#1
3 in 1 coffee(coffe, sugar & cream powder)
almond powder 4-8 tablespoons

#2
banana(a cold one)
half teaspoon of cinnamon
non dairy liquid creamer

#3
Like #2 but change creamer to 300 grams tofu( a pound is 454g).

#4
1 cup of home made yogurt(recipe on request)
sweeteneer such as:
-banana or fave fruit
-maple syrup

#5
1 cup Meng Bean(cooking method on request)
milk or yogurt

When mixing I premix all ingredients and add whey and give mixer one last quick spin. This is becuase I have heard that the blade can damage the protien(might be wrong though)

Other ingredients I use.
1-2 tablespoons of wheat germ
big gob of blackstrap molasses
flax seed oil
cactus fruit(huo long guo- which means fire dragon fruit- don't know proper English name)
adzuki beans

 You've got a stronger stomach than me. :p

If you were in Oz I could suggest a place to get bulk protein cheaply but you're not (judging by your accent) so I'll leave it up to others. stubbs is in the UK IIRC so he probably won't be able to help you either.

zuiquan1, in my experience pure whey powder has no taste (maybe a slight milky/vanilla taste). If you mix it with milk you will barely notice it's there. It's certainly not unpleasant.

stubbs, just experiment a bit. If you buy 20kg at a time the relative cost of one or two failed experiments won't matter much.
