The era of big "guns" battleships ended with air strikes.

The aircraft carrier took the place in the naval power.

At the age of satellites and missiles, the carrier is a big target and very visible.

The next gen of carrier will address some of the issues.

What is your oppinion?

modern warfare now consists of two fairly effective delivery systems.

1. ordinance that is laser guided by air

2. suicide bombers

pretty much everything else doesn't have the impact of these two.

Military planning of each country is dependent on its national goals.

For example, Japan is forming a central army and a rapid deployment force. So Japan may deliver a heavy punch or deploy a sizeable force anywhere in the globe.

The joint exercise of China and Russia just ended. The Chinese paid the whole expense. There was a show of the long range heavy bomber. The Chinese is interested in aquiring. The long range bomber may deliver missile to surface ships and a carrier.

A fairly cheap WMD is guide a comet / asteriod on to a country that is giving you trouble. It seems there are asteroids that pass fairly close to earth. It's a matter of nugging them to where you want them to go.
