Hey, any of you guys practice this weapon? I would appreciate it if you gave me some info on it, or just some funny stories that happened to you while you were using it :)

when you started to learn it, did you start with a rope of the same length, or did you start with the whip itself?

I played with the rope first.
I find nothing funny about a five inch steel spike in the head.

Some whips are better than others. I have several and some just wrap better than others.

How much difference is there in using a 9-section whip compared to a manriki-gusari?

that Jap. whip is ok, different in application. I prefer the Chin. steel whip because it's usually longer and used to strike and poke with. The Jap. whip is more for entangling and bringing them in for your knife.

The whip is cool. You can also substitute various items for it (i.e. your belt or a chain). Use the rope unti you are brave enough to go and use the chain whip. I hit myself many a time with the whip and it did not feel good. I still sometimes hit myself with the whip. Not a good time.

I started out with the whip... I never ever thought about a rope. But I think I am going to stick with the whip it would be to hard to go back after a useing a rope now I think...

Not hard to go back to a rope.
Wrap the rope around itself at one end to give it some heft and some weight, this will enable you to spin it and give you a "soft" end with which to bash against your head.

If you are comfortable with the chain, keep using it. I go back to a rope anytime ai learn something new and havent got it down yet. Once I can get it with the lighter, slower rope, then I move to the chain.
