I'm happy to say there are a growing number of bagua clips and information posted out there.

Here's one of my favorite old men. I plan to be like him when I'm 74.

74 Years old. (http://blacktaoist.com/Master%20%20Sun%20ZI%20Jun.mov)

Check out blacktaoist 's web site (http://blacktaoist.com) for some good video of form and application for starters. He's one of the most prolific bagua guys on line. Used to post some good stuff here too. :p It's a great place to start.

I only clicked on that one video .... of the chinese man in the blue jumper suit with orange stripes ..... I don't care that he's Chinese and old ..... that's terrible Ba Gua!

Just because you spin in circiles and look like you'r drawning and swimming for your life, that's not Ba Gua. Where is the demonstration that he understands that the hands are like two pieces of doors and that the power comes from the foot/hip? Where is the twisting? Of the hip, to drive the power? Where is the twisting, the coiling and uncoiling of the arms to demonstrate the ability to deliver multiple blows without pulling back.

I'm prepared to take $hit for this post. But I have my master's Ba Gua as a standard and this falls way short. To really see this man's skill I would ask him to walk straight .... forget the spinning. Clearly demonstrate that he knows how to drive off the hip ..... because he's not doing it in that video and his base seems weak.

Sorry if he's someone's master.:(

:)

I turned it off a little more than halfway through because I'm at work and saw enough to know that he had: A) no structure and b) no power.

No power and no structure = crap

Ray;

You made some valid points about twisting the waist etc.

The video clip was from Hong Kong TV documentaries.

He talked about some theory about Ba Gua.

It is from Yi Jing. It is from Daoist's thinking of change.

If you have to master just a few things about Ba Gua.

He said that the steps Kou Bu and Bai Bu and single Palm change or Dan Huan Zhang. And everything else is changed from these.

I can guess about 90% of the talk due to the contents I know. My cantonese is very limited.

Count is correct. There are many cool clips in the website he provided a link to.

Some basic requirements in the Ba Gua posture.

1. elevating the wrist as if in suspension or Xuan Wan.

2. sinking the elbow or Zui Zhou.

3. lower the shoulder or Cheng Jian.

4. twisting the waist or Nin Yao.

5. sitting the hip or Zuo Kua.

6, knees closer together or Kou Xi.

etc.
