I will be conducting a seminar in Toronto on Feb. 18 from 11:00AM until 2:00PM. The first part will cover combat applications from the wooden dummy. The second part will cover sparring. The sparring will be either medium to full contact depending on skill level for those that wish to participate. I'll be showing Chi Sau techniques for anyone that doesn't desire to spar. Headgear, hand protection, and a mouthpiece will be minimal requirement for sparring. Please contact Sifu Ryan Kennedy at;
416-953-7200 for information.

Cool stuff i live in Toronto, what kind of sparring you covering? Like sparring for preparation for fight night's and different rules/competition's, sparring for self defense, general in class sparring etc. Wouldnt mind checking it out depending on how much you charging and what kind of turn out maybe i can let the people at my gym know would be interesting.

Small world, I'm from Crooklyn :D
It will be how to use WC principles when someone is trying to wreck you. Be it for fight nights or in the street. Call Sifu Kennedy for more info. He can tell you more. I just wanted an excuse to go to T-dot. ;)

Hey Phil,

Are those Toonies burning a hole in your pocket? ;)
I can't help it. I love it there. It's like my hometown (NYC), but cleaner and friendlier.

I just found out that the cost will be $50CAD. They're paying my expenses for the trip but the money goes to help the school.
Also, new students or people that don't wish to spar can work on isolation drills like this one (http://www.sifupr.com/videos/jab-hook.MPG)here.

PhilPhil,
Well I like NYC just fine. My trip last year to the Big Apple was a blast, and I met some friendly people too... ;)

Of course there are nice people in NY, but the beer is better up North. :D

The sparring seminar turned out well. We worked on defenses against jabs, hooks, and combinations during the first part of the seminar.
Then we worked on conditioning drills. No matter how good we might think we are we can all get hit. Your body needs to be conditioned to absorb punches and kicks. We later worked on defending against leg shoots. These of course were done using setups like feints, jab-jab shoot, etc.
Finally we did full contact sparring w/headgear ande MMA gloves. We tried to keep to WCs principles so we didn't resort to wild swinging. Yes, some of the fights went to the ground. I won't mention his name without his permission but one forum member participated and even sparred. He made a very good showing of WC fighting skills. He was able to make his WC works form him. I give him big props. Having him show up, train and even spar full contact with people from another school was a very good example of how adult martial artists can and should be. I hope to see him and others at the next sparring seminar.

Phil, it's okay to use my name, thanks for the kind words as I am not sure my WC worked for me, but similar to what Mr. Han told Jim Kelly - I enjoy the combat- no matter how bad I might be... I was hoping you guys would let me spar, but I didn't think it be proper (Mo Duk principles?) to ask. I was happy when you guys gave me the go ahead.

Phil, I posted a separate message on the seminar - I forgot about this thread.
