Does anyone know where I can find some Bak Mei of Juk Lum clips? I have demo videos from years ago in NYC on VHS but I'd like clips to send to a Bak Hok practitioner who sent me this link: http://www.yongchunbaihechuen.com/videos.html
The guy at the top is the head of the system at the

Phil,

Do you have Quicktime on your computer? You'll need that to play the clip correctly (video and audio).

I saw the clip and thank you.
I also have a cilp (it's very poor quality), of a Bak Mei form. It performed by my friend Jalal Mansur Nuriddin of "The Last Poets" who is now in Paris. http://www.grandfatherofrap.com
He studied from Kwong Man Fong. The clip is from the grand opening of the Soho Fitness Center in 1983 where I was the manager and also taught Wing Chun: http://www.sifupr.com/videos/Bak_Mei.MPG

Hi Phil,

This form looked like saam mun bagua kuen 3 door 8 directional fist although just portions he started one way and finished wrong way, maybe he cut the form in half and forgot which way he finished?

Thanks for the clip!

I'll presume that you're refering to the White Crane link I posted that has a few forms on it.
http://www.yongchunbaihechuen.com/videos.html
I got the clips from an English guy who is now living in Spain. He's been to Wing Chun (Yong Chun) city to study Wing Chun White Crane. My interest was that some have said that Bak Hok, Bak Mei, Wing Chun, and Lung Ying have roots in Hakka martial arts. I do see some similarities in them all. But that doesn't prove a connection of course.

FT, do you see any simililarities between Bak Mei and the Bak Hok forms in the link I posted?

Yes, but differences in power generation and softness that bak mei uses comparing to Bak Hok.

Fukien white crane is closer to southern mantis then bak mei pai IMHO, but some may say im wrong.

cheers

Phil,

Here is another video from Kwong Man Fong's school. It's a compilation of various forms done by his students.

http://www.pakmeinyc.net/vids/forms.mp4

Comparing it to the Bak Hok videos, you'll notice that there are more differences than similarities.

Bak Mei has always been a style I liked. Those are some very good clips. I learned a little Bak Mei from a student at the school on E. Bway in NYC. It looks like some of those clips were taken at the NYC school. I remember seeing the red circles on the Bak Mei uniforms.
Thanks for sending the link to those clips.

Max,
You should understand, the quickest way to get disowned by your sifu in Pak Mei is to publish videos.

With few exceptions.

Yum Cha is correct! We have to be very careful how we represent our style - once it's published, it can't be taken back. Good thing there's some quality control out there for BM and LY!

FT - do you really think WC is "softer" than LY or BM?!? This seems a strange statement!!!

Cheers - Kevin

Looking at the bak mei clips I could believe wing chun to be softer depending on whose wing chun , although the strikes should have the same explosive power.

Hi Ao,

Sorry for the late reply, just through my experiences and training in both wing chun and bak mei i feel wingchun to be softer due to its way of force and angles to bak mei linear moves. Softer does not mean better in this case just when in comparision thats all. Better is within the person fighting!

I agree with Yum Cha about the videos, although you cant judge people on a video as he is trying to put across his knowledge and everyone is different. So far MKF has his sup jee, you have the jik bo of dr wong, jik bo and sup jee of the stone mason guys or whoever it is. You have the china 9 step push and of course the fish munger dude with his dvds.

Same goes for Yip with his dragon and the china vcd 5 horses returns i think you shouldnt be too harsh cause everyone is different its the knowledge that is put on the tape/dvd etc.

If you are Sifu and quilfied to teach you are quilified to produce your own system on dvd if you wish.

I was just at the New Martial Hero magazine banquet in Hong Kong in December. Some of the better stuff done was Chow Ga praying mantis. I filmed it and I'll post up a clip by tomorrow.

No, I'm sorry I never posted them. I'll get to it. I'm just going to post some sections of forms, I don't want anyone to get upset if thier whole form is posted. Gotta respect people's privacy at least a bit....

They were definately very good though...especially some of the old sifu..they got some standing ovations....very powerful....
