Been really hammering my legs recently.
Loads of running, skipping and stances etc...
but this week i can't hardly walk let alone run or skip!!!
the muscles that are hurting most are my Tibialis Anterior [shin muscles]
I've never really felt these much untill i started Tai Chi.
Just been using some walm musle rub wich helps but not much.

How do i tell if i've damaged them or they are just hurting?

Sounds like shin splints to me. Take a week or two off from running and skipping.

You're SOL for the time being unless you have access to something like an eliptical machine or a rower. Perhaps cyclling with clips or without straps wouldn't be bad. Any repetitive impact or things forcing your to flex your foot upward will exacerbate the situation.

When you go back, be sure to ease back into your schedule. Don't "kill" your legs.

Just go easier on the running, after a rest a work into it.

there is a stretch to do for shin splints--sit in a kneeling position with the tops of your feet flat on the ground, sit relaxed with the weight on top of the calves and you will feel the stretch. Good one to do while watching tv.
