Master Johnny So's student Rocky Lam teaches in NYC CHinatown's old elementary school which has been converted into a Community Center. Its by the park with the old grandstand (where all the homeless people sleep)

There are some of his other students teaching down there as well. You could always try BLT and ask. They know everybody

Do you mean the Chinatown near Canal St. or the Chinatown in Flushing? Also, what is BLT? Thanks.

The "BLT" he's refering to is a martial arts supply store called "Bok Lei Tat" or "BLT Supplies", it's located in Chinatown on Canal St.

This is their website:

I'm assuming when you say you're looking for Northern Shaolin you are refering to the Bei Shaolin of Gu Ru-zhang, if that's the case and you do make contact with a BSL teacher there, could you pass me their info? One of my students wanted to continue her BSL training when she moved to NY but was unable to find anyone.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info SaekSan. You're right that I am thinking about the BSL of Gu Ru Zhang. I'll check out Chinatown and let you know if I find any instructors.

For some reason did you know that I was at YMAA? There were many things I liked about it, but after I graduated from college I had to move away. Now I am a medical student in NYC.

WOW…AN ESPN MOMENT!!! That’s funny man. I had no idea you went to YMAA. The reason why I ask is because a client of mine has just started taking private lessons Dr. Kay-Chi Leung of The American Jiann Shyong Kun fu Center in Cambridge. She loves it there but the only thing is that she can’t attend the evening classes. So another friend recommended YMAA which have morning classes. I think YMAA would work out perfectly for her. I’m glad to here you liked it.

Thanks :D ,

Anyone know what happened to Johnny So? He seemed to have disappeared off the Chinatown map? Back in the 90's he was quite prominent alongside many Chinatown teachers. Is he still teaching?

Sigung So retired from teaching publicly many years ago to run his businesses in upstate NY. He handed over the Northern Shaolim Kung Fu Association to Master Kenneth Hui here in Los Angeles.

Rocky only teaches Saturday mornings at the Chinatown location and the class is mainly for children. He teaches at a very slow pace patiently developing the basic techniques before moving past the first form.
