Zi Cao Salve Recipe by chinesetherapeutics.org
makes 3 jars zi cao salve

11 Sesame Oil
1 oz Zi Cao Gen
1.5 oz Beeswax
3 recycled 4 oz. baby food jars

Heat Zi Cao Gen on LOW heat for 30 minutes in Sesame oil. Strain out herb
material. Add oil back to heat plus one oz beeswax. Spoon out small amount
and let dry to check consistency. Add more beeswax as needed in small
amount and check consistency again until you are happy with the result.

I created this salve based on a Chinese Traditional oil recipe which is simply Zi Cao Gen "Purple Herb Root" or Radix Lithospermi sue Arnebiae infused in sesame oil, which is considered cool in nature. It is used traditionally to relieve burn, diaper rash, blister, vaginitis, and dry skin with itching and burning. I infused this herb with sesame oil and added vitamin E and beeswax. A small amount of olive oil is also included. This herb is what I use with success for my daughter if she starts getting an irritated bottom and also for myself if I feel an eczema patch starting.

If you want some and don't want to cook it up I have it here:

Thanks for sharing the wisdom.

So, Zi Cao Gen vs Zi Cao - out of curiosity, what does the root have that the leaf doesn't? I know Zi Cao is a Cool Blood herb that goes to the Ht and Liv, but what about the Gen?

peace,

This is like my Die Da question. Zi Cao is the same as Zi Cao Gen. People just leave off the 'gen.' Kind of like I left off the 'oz' after 11 and before sesame oil. oops!
