Ok, so I've herad from some people that this guys knows his stuff, and I've heard from others that he's full of it.

But this... I think I've just lost respect for this guy...

Read the first name on the list...

That's right, our fried Mr. Montigue has allied himself with Ashida Kim.

The Taiji guy is Montaigue, not Montigue. Different spelling = no legal liability.

Although there are many styles, they all depend on the strong beating the weak and the slow falling to the quick. These are not related to the power that must be learned -- Taiji Classics

Actually, I asked Erle about that page several years ago, and he said he did not know why his name was on there, that they must have some sort of agenda. Ashida Kim is using Erle's name for some reason, probably to make himself look more credible. I wouldn't pay any attention to it.

Sorry to sound ignorant but who is Ashida Kim? Is he a fake? What has he done to be lacking in credibility, I visited his web site and he says he has been ripped off by paladin press for books he has written. Any info appreciated, just curious.

Ashida Kim is a very controversial Ninjitsu instructor. He claims to be of the "Koga Ryu" lineage, although there are many others who claim the same, while the more recognized authorities on Ninjutsu claim that Koga Ryu does not exist. Anyway, He is quite hateful to some people, while to myself and a few others, he has been nothing but polite and helpful. He's just a mass of contradictions. With all that, his ninja version of Dim-Mak, and his claims to have astral spies everywhere, not many people place stock in what he says or writes.

Anyway, they're not associated, Montaigue and Kim.

that guy sounds kinda funny.

i wish i had astral spies, though... :(

it's probably for the dim mak stuff that he put down erle's name. doesn't necessarily mean that erle even heard about it, though. i could put sam wiley's name up on a makeshift gay porn site, but... wait... that gives me ideas... :)

Whoa, apparently a few people have brought this up to him... Go to his website, there's two posts relating to Erle. Read the second one (called something like "people who do not belong here" or something) and read Ashida Kim's replies.

yeah.

I have been considering purchasing Erle Montaigue video for beginners BAGUAZHANG THE COMPLETE BASIC SYSTEM. But I am wondering if anyone has actually bought this video and maybe could give me more insight on this video.
Is it a good video for beginners? Does it cover the basics? Stances?Postures?Square and Circle walking?etc.,?How about actually applications?
Is it explained in a way that can be easily understood?

The impression I'm under is that Erle's is the most detailed stuff on the market. Although I hear Xie Peiqi's may also be very good.

However, you're on the west coast which means there should be no shortage of teachers. You're better off finding one and sticking with them for a while. Maybe after three to five years with your teacher, you'll be in a position to seek further exposure via videotapes.

I'm sure there are fine instructors here in california, my instructor is based in San Francisco and she has often said that videos can enhance your bagua.

I have a copy of Xie Pei-qi's 64 chin-na applications, and although I like the stuff on it, it is not nearly as detailed as any of Erle's stuff. I think Xie's video is meant for someone already experienced, though.

Dude, if you have an instructor already, then it would be better for you to stick with her for a while before even thinking about vid's.

He teaches Chiang Jung-chiao's style of Bagua.
