I watched it.

IMHO
This is a good one with dramatized about what is a Quiet Mind, Awareness, and why is quiet mind is needed. It is a movie about how to raise from Layer 3 to Layer 4.

It is not about expressive, suppressive, it is beyond that and about Letting Go or letting Flow.


Thus, there is saying like

"are you happy?"
"going inside to find happiness"
" you think more then you know...." ..

" what is the time? (answer) Now.
What is your name? (answer) This moment...."


Well, any one wants a "feeling about"
Quiet mind,
what quet mind bring to emerge
or
even
Yik Kam's first stanza:
Collect the intention, union with the spirit, on the equal shoulder stance.

Watch the movie.

Looks like it might be a pretty decent movie. Maybe do some people who see it some good.

Anyone read the book? I was really into Millman's first couple of books when I was younger. They are a good a beginning into thinking about some of that stuff, but really just a beginning.

I just did a quick search, and from the looks of a majority of reviews of the film, a lot of people are saying they really missed the mark.

IMHO

The movie is good.
However, it is about a very difficult subject ---- Realization or Satori.



I found Mr. Lester Levenson is the one who can clearly present this state and believe or not Mr. Lester's method is close to the Untie the Knot method of the Shurangama sutra of Zen.

There is a different between a thinking speculation and describing what is going on. Thinking speculation is similar to a replay a Tape Recorder (if my memory serve how Mr. Lester Levenson describe it) and Knowing is similar to one has real experience about the subject. But we often cant even differentiate between the two. So, that is another layer of difficulties to want to make use of the Know.



as it said, We think more than we really know. One might be totally lost about what is presenting in the movie without some back ground.

We general will not know about that realm which is beyond our thinking. we oftern think there is nothing after the Mind quiet down. Well, it seems to not that case in reality. ...

Well, it seems some of the harshest reviews are coming from people who are familiar with and respect the source material.

Anyway, I'll likely check it out for myself and draw my own conclusions, but it is a little strange that the director is the same one who brought us "Jeepers Creepers."

Basically, the story is about a kid on top of the world who is sort of a prototypic American male athlete driven by his desires who is exposed to a different way of thinking/being by a guru/gas station attendant. Kind of an intro to mindfulness story. Martial arts, in the form of aikido, may play a peripheral role, if it sticks close to the source material. Check out the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes, as there are a ton of them for this movie.

depending on what one expects from the movie, for entertainment? for learning about different perspective? for wanting to know what is quiet mind?.....


Lots of Reviewers are Proffesional Reviewers, and thier job is review for review. thus, they of lots to say for review sake.



as for fortune cookie spirituality, that depend, in the real life, the type of quiet the mind cultivation does work and does help to cure lots of chronics disease or restore wholesome body. and it is obvious that without a certain degree of quiet down the mind, the Qi in the body will not function well and internal art is less possible to be likely.

The sedona method eventhough is a different approach with traditional Zen methods, the principle is the accord to the classical. IMHO. So, same principle with different approach.



On close to the source material,

Close to the source material means wanting things in a certain way. and that itself generate wanting to change the world or Control. that itself move one away from the quiet mind.
How will those who wanting things in a certain way knowing what is close to the source material? could that be " One is Thinking more then one is knowing?" with a blur and attachement mind?



Quiet down the mind state exist. IMHO
