Dear all,

There will be a World Lion Dance Competition coming again in August. I hope to share more about this event. The organisers are working hard to promote this art . Hope you will be supportive to them too. I would also like to start this thread to promote lion dance activities in the States & Canada.

Emplion was task to fabricate a Praying Mantis Drum Chariot. It was a pain-staking job for the welders, heres pictures of the complete set.

KUCHING: Lion and dragon dance teams wowed the crowd at the inaugural Sarawak Open Lion Dance Championship here recently as they displayed their energetic and acrobatic skills.

Organised by the Chinese Martial Arts Association, the championship comprised of three events – traditional lion dance, lion dance on poles and dragon dance.

A total of 17 teams, including one from Brunei, took part in the championship at the MBKS Indoor Stadium.

Works Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Yong Khoon Seng said events such as this would not only promote lion and dragon dances as an art but also attract tourists.

“I hope there will be more participants from all over Malaysia in the coming years. We should also aim to bring in teams from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong,” he said in his speech.

He also proposed that the organisers stage lion and dragon dance parades during festivals such as Chinese New Year.

They cheered when the teams leaped and twisted in the air from one pole to another, and gasped when a young participant lost his footing and fell.

He was sent to hospital for a check-up.

In step: The audience was thrilled by the dragon dance performances.
As a safety measure, mattresses had been placed on the ground in case of accidents.

There were also displays of traditional lion dance performed on the ground and accompanied by drums and cymbals.

In addition, the crowd also enjoyed colourful dragon dances which showcased the skill of the participating teams in manipulating the lengthy dragons.
