let's talk about tekken, i heard jet is going to be in it(he's also going to be in rogue with jason statham), but what i'm upset with is the director now the guy did a great job with Paid In Full. but all his other stuff pretty much sucked, i'm totally not impressed with the guy they should've used one of those music video directors they always do well with action(hype williams notwithstanding) maybe phillip G. Atwell or someone anyone except for charles stone. i think this is going to blow, i mean van dam street fighter blow, i mean mortal kombat 2 blow. but then again i could be wrong might have some grat fights if they get a good action director......... donnie yen anyone maybe sammo hung (i know they don't have yuen woo ping money but with jet attached who knows maybe) just please no corey yuen. he already screwed up DOA...

Video game Tekken big screen bound (http://www.rte.ie/arts/2007/1224/tekken.html)

The hit video game 'Tekken' is being made into a film.

Variety reports that the futuristic martial arts movie will begin shooting on 4 February in Louisiana.

Commenting on the film, director Dwight Little said: "The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp to seize freedom for his people."

He continued: "It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

Why is it most fighting games don't step away from the Enter the Dragon format?

The only one I can think of is Tao Feng. That one was the bomb.

well thats because most fighting video games like street fighter, mortal kombat and tekken are all based on guess what enter the dragon. but from what i'm hearing about this script its totally defferent(albeit it still has the tournament thing) and it combines some aspects from fantasy/matrixy type films. hopefully its good but who knows right now not one person is casted the script is till being worked out they just got a new director on board.

Tao Feng was from one of hte co-creators of Mortal Kombat. I think it was the first fighting game on the Xbox/PS2 generation, one of the first anyways. Only on Xbox. Good stuff. As your fights wore on your character would get all jacked up. Torn clothing, bruises and blood. You get even get dislocations and broken bones that would disable you. Less magicy, but it was still there. Iron Monk and the little old dude were my favorites.

It seems like Cung Le been casted to play Marshall Law in the movie. Toward the end of the interview, Cung mentions he's going to play Marshall Law

We spoke soon after the Shamrock fight (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=762). He was pretty excited about the role, but he was also talking up his role on Fighting (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50719). Cung is on the march. We'll be hearing a lot more from him soon. ;)

Donnie's MMA is pretty good and probably will get better. They would be good training partners.

Trailer actually doesn't look too bad. I mean, it's not going to be a masterpiece, but as MA Video game movies go it looks like it will be good.

And Hey......they have Cung Le and that'll be a plus right there.

But, considering Tekken was always my favorite fighting game, I'll have to see it.

I looked up the cast online, and it looks like they are omitting virtually every Chinese stylist from the Video game when they make the movie. No Lei, Wang, or Feng. It looks like the only one is the Chinese Girl. (and Law if you count JKD).

Also no King or Paul, WTF??? I always thought they were two of the most popular characters.

Anchor Bay Picks Up Tekken for a Wide Theatrical 2011 Release (http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/09/14/anchor-bay-picks-up-tekken-for-a-wide-theatrical-2011-release/)
Posted on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 by Adam Quigley

We’ve seen a poster and a trailer for Tekken, but does anybody want to see Tekken itself?

Anchor Bay Films seems to think so, and that’s why they’re granting the film a wide theatrical release in 2011. Screwy business decision, or calculated risk? Check the box office breakdown after the break.

Coming Soon reports the news, saying that Anchor Bay acquired the U.S., Australia and New Zealand distribution rights to the film from Crystal Sky Pictures. They announce that the film “will be released widely in the United States in 2011″—the “widely” being the part that immediately caught my eye.

A wide release? Seriously?

When I saw Tekken’s trailer (the video from the original post has been taken down, but I’ve embedded a mirror below), I thought for sure the film would end up being dumped straight-to-DVD, copies of it building dust on the bottom of a rental store shelf. Then I spotted the tagline on the poster—”The Battle Begins Aug 5″—and was struck with a combination of fear, hate and sadness. That date passed though, and I had all but forgotten about the film. Balance had been restored to the universe.

And then this happened.

Anchor Bay must not have checked the box office tallies for video game adaptations, or else they’d know that, unless you have Angelina Jolie sporting a tight, tiny shirt, they don’t really perform too well. It also doesn’t bode well that three of the lowest ranking titles on that list are adaptations of fighting games, a subgenre that isn’t too highly populated. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li tops it with under $9 million in its coffers, and a dismal $12 million worldwide; Double Dragon took in an even sadder $2 million; and DOA: Dead or Alive gets the honor of being the lowest earning video game adaptation of all time, making less than half a million dollars overall.

Anchor Bay will be lucky to even make back their marketing costs with this one. It’s a shame, too, since they’ve only recently started to expand to the theatrical market, and many of their recent releases (Solitary Man, City Island) have been quite good. One has to wonder why they thought Tekken was the pony to back when jumping from limited to wide releases.
I have this and I've been meaning to watch it for the last week or two, but just haven't had the opportunity.

Ong-Bak director working on new Tekken movie [UPDATE] (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/ong-bak-director-working-on-new-tekken-movie-update/1100-6417098/)
Actor Kane Kosugi says he will not in fact appear in a new Tekken movie.
by Martin Gaston on January 13, 2014

[UPDATE] Actor Kane Kosugi says on his website that he will not in fact appear in a new Tekken movie, but instead a non-Tekken movie with the temporary title Agent X.

The original story is below.

It looks like the critically panned live action Tekken movie is getting a prequel.

According to Japanese film site Cinema Today (translated via Kotaku), Tekken - A Man Called X will take place before the events of the 2010 original.

Prachya Pinkaew, previously responsible for Ong-Bak and The Protector, is lined up to direct the film.

Kane Kosugi is also said to be starring in the film. Kosugi also played Ryu in the Dead or Alive movie, a film that is mostly remembered for a scene where a nearly-naked Holly Valance beats up a host of assailants.

The original Tekken movie went straight-to-DVD in the US when it made its way over in 2011.

Tekken - A Man Called X joins a suite of other video games in the process of being adapted into movies, such as a new Hitman, Need for Speed, and Assassin's Creed.
