Thanks!

I tried it, but it does not seem not be working! My browzer (Both IE, and Firefox) just lock up when I run the scan.

Now what?

that's a good question.

try another browser? netscape?

if your virus is messing with your browser you may want to do a little reading at teh site first seeing as they likely have some info on what to do when that happens.

I sent them an e-mail, and a copy of the infected file. We will see where that gets me.

lol.

That was a joke right?

BTW, did you try deleting it while in safe mode?

Royal Dragon

No, no joke, they have a form for doing just that.

No, BUT I think it is an infected Windows file, so I don't think I should delete it.

me, im an antivirus luddite.

but trendmicro has a pretty good track record and the few sec-tech gurus I know would use trendmicro before norton or mcaffee or others.

rd, im pretty confident trend will have a solution for you.

they may also try to sell you one of their products, but that's up to you and of course it's to be expected. :)

go for the free home version. it works well for me.

it has an option to set for a boot scan. it will scan at boot up, before any programs get a chance to start up.

this has found and removed several trojan viruses on my comp.

Buy a Mac.

An what makes a "Mac" impervious to a virus?

SanShou Guru

It's not. It's just that there have not been any destructive ones...ever.

Been using a mac for 20 years, never had a virus ... not once.

Hate to say it, but formatting C may be your only option.

if you have any files you want to keep, burn to disk or use an external drive to store them.

i would then re format your c drive. (if you need help setting your bios to boot from disk just say)

once you get that format done, GET A VIRUS PROTECTION PROGRAM. :p

that avast link i gave you is a good program to have. it works great for me, and is totally free. its up to date and continually updates its virus database to keep you on guard.

get one or two spyware programs too.

its like chicks dude. you gotta have your protection. you dont want a nasty virus, or worse

I would consider reformatting as a last option, especially if you have a lot of stuff you will have to burn to disk etc.

Download trojan hunter and give that a scan.

also post up the details on a tech forum

Run a Panda Activescan. Use IE cuz it doesn't work with FF.

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

I searched my computer for that file but I couldn't find it. I was going to upload it for you here.

If you run Windows, you should plan on reinstalling every 6 months. Why? Because the disk gets fragmented, you get a lot of weird DLLs and stuff installed, and you don't know what's really running on there.

Some tips:

a) Install a software firewall and virus checker with automatic updates.
b) Use an external, hardware based firewall (gateway) in-between your computer and your internet connection. This will help you with attackers. Yes, the software firewalls don't really work.
c) Don't open any email attachments. Don't run any weird shareware programs (this is how you get trojans).
d) Don't keep any secret info on your Internet computer. This means, don't keep your tax info on there or anything that you wouldn't want hacked. Assume that anything on your Internet computer is public knowledge.

Oh, and:

e) Don't use IE. IE has the most holes and bugs because of Active-X, (OCX) etc.
