Here is my translation of Luo Kwang Yu's fist song for the Beng Bu form. It is translated from Hon-chiu Wong's book A Discourse on the History of Praying Mantis Boxing in China for the Last One Hundred Years.

Thanks to Steve Cottrell who corrected a mistranslation! I had confused the character for mouse with the character for scurry. The translation has been changed to "scurrying jump" (#6).

收勢 in this case 勢 translates as pose such as 姿勢 "zhishi" - Mandarin, "jisai" - Cantonese.

At Sifu Tony Chuy's school, we use a mixture of nomenclature from both LGY and WHF.

Opinion on the technique being called "crushing step"? In the version of this set I am familiar with the technique after the wicked and wicked strike (a mantis hook and a hammer fist with us) is I believe a hook / grapple / pluck or triple pick. Is this the "Crushing Step"?

Our school practices the form the same way that you describe. No, the "Crushing Step" is the name for the next move (Straddle Tiger, Waterwheel Pattern - kua hu fan che shi [Mandarin]). This was apparently the name of the technique used in Zhejiang province and by Luo Kwang Yu. Though the Zhejiang province quan pu uses 蹦, while LKY uses 崩 for "crush".

Wondering why no reference the to the triple pick? A commonly practiced later addition?
