Why is it that everybody and their brother is taking Rexkwondo classes while traditional Chinese Martial Arts remain underground.

I've yet to find someone teaching Xingyiquan in Shanxi, the place where Xingyi was invented but there are two Taiquantao schools in my podunk town.

The sad thing is that Taekwondo is just about the least effective martial art ever devised.

The head-hunter boxer in me cringes at sparring rules that ban head contact and minimize punching to the point where most people spar with their hands at their waist and the wrestler in me can't help but scoff at people who think that head-height roundhouses, flying jump kicks and over-the-shoulder axe kicks will serve them in a self-defense scenario. Might as well just lie down on the ground with your leg sticking up so that I can do nasty things to your knee and save yourself the quick trip to the ground this way.

Grr, Argh!

There are good, practical martial arts from China.

I dunno, I see then as simple wrm up drills. In Kali, many of these are done as well. I didnt watch all the vids, however, such as the nunchaku stc, only the first three.

Traditional Taekwondo is different from modern Taekwondo. Traditional Taekwondo is powerful & effective. It has fewer restrictions & allowed you punch.
