I am devastated! My sifu's first instructor, (http://www.americankaratesystem.org/lieb.html)was killed in the recent train crash in Germany. Master Lieb lived near here in Muskegon MI but was in Germany to give a seminar. He founded the American Karate System and was well respected by top Korean, Chinese, and Japanese martial arts masters. I was judged by him in the weapons division of a local tournament last year and was honored to meet him! I don't even know if my sifu knows it yet, I just heard it on the news tonight!

Michigan man among victims of Germany train crash
MUSKEGON, Mich. -- A Michigan martial arts expert was among at least 23 people killed Friday when a high-tech train crashed in Germany, his widow said.

Ernest Lieb, 66, of Muskegon, Mich., was in his native Germany to conduct a seminar on karate, Jennifer Lieb told The Associated Press. She learned of his death from the sister of another crash victim with whom Ernest Lieb was traveling.

Ernest Lieb was born in Germany in 1940, emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1952 and became a U.S. citizen in 1959, the year he graduated from Muskegon High School, according to the Web site of the American Karate System, which he founded in 1972.

Jennifer Lieb said she and her husband married in June and recently purchased a house in Muskegon.
