so, I didn't bother posting an invitation to come train and drink this year because for several years now, you losers haven't RSVP'd...I had fun without you anyways.:p

so, due to a major renovation to our central downtown area and abuse of the baseball field last year (which was a great location for the event) the BF got shuffled off to a corner of downtown that just plain sucked...the whole site was on about a 2% grade...the total area was too small...the music stage had not nearly enough area in front of it...overall, a disapointing 10th year anniversary (my 5th year attending) of the event.

However, I did find a new favorite beer. Two, in fact. Both by the same brewery.

if you go to the news page you'll see the Russian Imperial and the Scottish Wee Heavy announced as seasonal brews.

For those of you that follow my beer antics, you will know that my last favorite beer was also a Scottish Wee Heavy, the oft mentioned 'Tasgall Ale' by

{Aside #1: The owner of HBC is one Oscar Wong who trained 7* Praying Mantis under none other than Shifu Brendan Lai in the late 60's. I did get to confirm this Saturday with Oscar himself. He said he trained for about 18 months while in college...I didn't belabor the point and congratulated him on his success and went on my merry way}

{Aside #2: HBC just moved from a small location to a bigger location and brewed a special Imperial Gaelic Ale to celebrate the last brew at the old brewery and sold it as a limited edition bottle this past sunday. I bought 3. One to drink now, one to drink with my brother in a few weeks and one to cellar.}

The Russian Imperial was labeled (I think) as 'Baltic Imperial'. I got one of the last glass fulls. Delicious. Dark, sweet but with enough hops so the sweet isn't sticky. A nearly perfect beer for my palate. ***CORRECTION*** It was "Baltic Porter" so, it may not be a different naming of that Russian Imperial.

The Wee Heavy was a great Wee Heavy but the Baltic is now my most fav beer of all time.
