this film is becoming extremely anticipated, it's marty scoresesse's, apaptation of infernal affairs. i know what your all thinking how come hollywood always has to ruin a good film. but **** it it's scoresse with matt damon, leo decaprio,mark wahlberg and the best actor to play a villian ever jack nicholsan. people are calling the film racist on imdb because they remade it with a mostly white cast. but i don't think race has anything to do with it,it's just marketing your average joe shmo doesn't know who tony leung or andy lau is and they might be aprehensive to go see the film(actually infernal affair did have a limited release here in ny and probably la, but when i went to go see it there were like i don't know 3 people in the theater. mostly because you could go to chinatown and get IA 1-3 for the same price of a movie ticket and you don't half to deal with the person in back of you reading the subs out loud) i think this film is going to be a big block buster. and at least the original film makers and writers get credited.

know one has said anything about this film yet so i guess i will. marty scoresesse's mob movie comeback the "the Departed" staring leo dicaprio, jack nichalson, matt damon, mark walhberg, martin sheen, alec baldwin and anthony anderson. was in a word the ****. yes it's a remake of infernal affairs, but lets be fair scoressese was the inspiration for the hong kong new wave the brought us andrew lau, wong kar wai and john woo amng others, so isn't it fitting the he get inspired but the films he himself inspired. it let me say another thing before i move he really made this film his own, i forgot all about infernal after seeing this. okay now lets talk about the acting yes there were plenty of sware words but hey it's boston, i thought mark wahlberg and alec were competeing for the biggest hard ass award(walhberg got it hands down) martin sheen sounded like J.F.K. ehich means he had that boston accent down packed. as for the leads nicholson was back as we like him nice and scary, leo was great as the tony lueng character, he was even more disturbed then tony's character i think, and matt damon was great and a bigger **** head then andy lau character in infernal. now the story well the story is pretty much the same as infernal with some exceptions the female phsyc docter plays a bigger role as lover for both characters, and the end is a lil defferent as well not to spoil it for you but it's a literal head shot feast. well i really loved this film so if you haven't seen see it before you react about how americans shouldn't remake films blah blah blah yackity shmackity. see it first then comment.

I liked it. It had lots of exciting plot twists and was well made and acted. Jack Nicholson steels the show. As for being the usual Scorsese gangster movie, it was not. Although Jack Nicholson's character was clearly influenced by Whitey Bulger and the name Frank Costello belonged to this guy (http://www.paperlessarchives.com/costello.html), the film's plot was a complete work of fiction whereas Goodfellas and Casino are based on true stories.

the real frank was italian not irish, and he was known as a diplomat in lucky luciano's/meyer lanky's syndicate. as oppsoed to the films frank who was a madman and more like albert anastasia, thats who i think nicholson based his character on.

You are correct about the real Frank Costello. He was Italian and known as the "Prime Minister of the Mob". His real name was Francesco Castiglia. As for the film's Frank Costello being based on Albert Anastasia, I don't see that at all. It's clear that he was based on Bulger though. See the below link.

i could see that, but so many gangsters do so many things that are similar. the reason why i was saying anastasia was for the shear psychotic acts that nicholson character commited. onlkything is albert would've never have been a snitch for the feds, they didn't call him the mad hatter fopr nothing

The informant thing is but one of the connections. Aspects of the personality and being an Irish gangster from South Boston are also give-aways. Actually, the movie's technical advisor is Tom Duffy, a detective that worked on the Bulger case. You can see him in the movie. He plays the governor that swears in the police academy graduates.

As someone who reads up on the NY Mob, you must really appreciate Scorsese. Personally, I'd love for him to do a Lucky Luciano biopic.
