Yuka is one of the rising stars of Ashihara Karate (yet another Kyokushinkai splinter. One of the tougher ones). I sparred with her during a warmup at the IKO Open in Germany, last year.

She is ****ing MIGHTY. Fast and powerful, with textbook technique.

KyokushinKai focuses upon 'international knockdown' style of rules for fighting in tournaments.

Hand shots to the head are forbidden. Body blows and leg blows are encouraged.

If you would like to see some interesting historical footage, you should try to find a copy of 'Fighting Black Kings' out there somewhere. Basically a Kyokushin promo video, it still goes into some decent detail on the training the fighters put themselves through.

I am certain if you find an official Kyokushin page, you would also be able to find the tournament fighting rules.

how did you get to spar with her anyway? you train at the same place?

We were both competing at the IKO Open, last year. During warmups, we sparred a couple of rounds.

In Kyokushin (where the World revolves around hitting each other), warmups are essentially a social hour. Meet, greet & beat. Sort of like a mixer.

Yeah, and all the K1 fighters and all the boxers are just dealing out feather-shots, too...

Somehow it's doubtful she hits as hard as K1 fighters or boxers. (Unless they're 100 lb. women).
