Hi all-

Just wondering if people could point me in the direction of a good CMA school in the Denton/TX area (preferrably near or on the University of North Texas campus since I don't have a car).

My background is Ying Jow Pai and Shaolin (not Shaolin-Do). A Shaolin, Mantis, or YJP school would be my first choice, but the best I found is a Wah Lum school a couple hundred miles away in Clute.

There has to be more than the heap of "Billybob's Family School of Total Asswhooping Taekwondo and Motivational Posters" listed at yellowpages.com :p

Not costing $200/month would be a plus as well, especially considering as how I probably will not be gainfully employed for a while yet...

Most of the CMA is going to be in Ft Worth (Mantis) and Dallas. The drive from Denton to Dallas isn't that bad.

BoulderDawg - I'm also a dirty liberal commie mutant traitor... people getting annoyed at my martial arts snootiness is the least of my worries :)

Besides, if it's just a bunch of ****y TDK people they won't attack me without a ref around to call points anyway :)

MasterKiller - those links were exactly what I was looking for, but seem like a bit of a trip (remember, I don't have a car and have to work MA in around a school schedule). MapQuest says the time to Dallas from UNT is about half an hour - a bit more to avoid the tollway - is that accurate? MapQuest has misled me before...

If it's relatively close I could probably just get a bus pass and bike whatever the bus won't cover (assuming they allow bikes on the bus) but I'd rather not spend an hour commuting...

Does UNT have a decent kung fu club by any chance? I'm having pretty good luck with that here in Iowa.

EDIT: This is a martial arts board where people can have thoughtful, in-depth discussions about the most authentic way to rip someone's esophagus out and strangle them with it, and they censor the word "pi-ssy"?! That honestly makes my day. I'm going to be walking around with a big goofy grin on my face telling people I bathe in the blood of my enemies and then complaining about my virgin ears when they respond with a hearty WTF.

This is a family board, afterall. ;)

I don't know if UNT has a kung fu club or not.

on campus looks like just Aikido and Taiji:

I know a guy who graduated from UNT, and he said he remembers a Kung Fu place somewhere in Denton, but didn't know if it's still there. He thought it was a white leopard school, which would probably make them associated with Lee's White Leopard:

Those boys from Lee's are pretty tight. They always kick my @ss at Taiji Legacy.

That could be interesting... I'm not sure if I have quite the physical makeup for Leopard tho (ie tall and lanky, about 6'2" - everyone here who does Leopard isn't much above 5'4" and they kick my sorry hindquarters at it :p). Well, it's worth a shot...
