I'm a big Rocky fan myself. Yeah I agree that he should have done this years ago, but I think the timing is good as we need something like this movie in the world right now. I saw the trailer on Saturday when I saw Casino Royale. Along with Rocky Balboa there were a couple of other movies that were along the same lines, inspirational, so that is good.

I think this movie will be good. The idea behind it seems feaseable and he acknowledges the fact that the character is so old that the possibility of winning is slim to none, but like the first one, the idea is to just compete and be shown the respect that he deserves.

I'll be the first in line for this one.:D

I'm really looking forward to this movie too. I love all of the Rocky films. You can't help but get pumped up when you see Rocky training and you hear the music. It's pretty awesome.

I always thought that Stallone should have produced some workout tapes or something. Not that he needs the money or anything but he would have cashed in on something like that.

Over the past few years I really think that boxing has lost its popularity. The UFC certainly has helped this along. But Stallone has pretty much single handedly given boxing a second chance with his show "The Contender" and now this movie. Ultimately, I think that boxing will loose to MMA but you've got to give Stallone some credit for keeping it alive. That's pretty awesome.

Anyway, I'll be right there with you guys on opening night! :D

ROCKY! ROCKY! ROCKY!

Here is an interview and feature with Sly from Access Hollywood ... amazing to think it's 30 years since the original Rocky

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Vw1IVk_ik

And here is the classic training montage from Rocky IV, which juxtaposed Ivan Drago in the Russian high tech labs and Rocky out in the winter wilderness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7Kg_w-0y_w
The training sequences were always an integral part of the Rocky movies, and in that way, they were similiar to the old school kung fu movies -- one of the facets of Shaw Brothers flicks was always the long training before the final fight.

I'm with the rest of you -- I'll be there opening day as well -- even if it gets panned by the critics, I'm really curious to see what Sly will come up with and what kind of shape he'll be in.

They say the theme of the movie is the idea of a generation of people that are what most say "Past their prime". Most feel useless at this age and not very valuable to society. Sly is trying to use this angle to tell people that they are valuable and can contribute even in old age. He certainly knows how to bring about social issues now doesn't he. But most of this is from his first hand experience. Each of the Rocky's theme's are paralelled in Stallone's life. This one is very close to the first one, but with a different theme..

That's why I love the Rocky movies. Sure, the training montages and the jokes are great, but it's basically a feel good movie that isn't a "feel good movie". They say that anyone can do it, but you've gotta be willing to work harder then you ever have, face your fears dead in the face, and still face the real possibility of loss, despite all the work.

How would you know, have you already seen it? Comments like this are exactly the typical response of the general society. The general society rather see Hostel or Saw III, than a movie that at the least represents something positive. Unfortunately it's the way society is today.

Whether or not it is a sleeper or total flop, Sly has inspired more people than you could even dream about, so who are you to even say how the movie will be accepted by the general public before it's release, lol.

You gotta love it when a never was judges a has been, even before the case has been tried.....:p

I will be sure to bring this thread back when I see it on TBS in a couple years. I saw Rocky 5, I wouldn't watch # 6. I watched that retarded Saw movie therefore I would never go to see #'s 2 and 3.

I can't help but chime in on this, but I agree with Sihing.....

TBS is a family type station channel, so of course, in a few yrs, you will possibly see Rocky 6, and yess, you can bring this thread back from the dead, but IMO, I doubt most cable networks will show retarted movies like Saw for the mere fact that its 1) Not a family movie, and 2) has more violence, bad language and enuff gore to make a 2hr movie only 40 mins long. Of course there's Starz, HBO, or Cinemax, but they don't count.

As for Rocky 5, while it may not be his best of the rocky series, as a whole, the rocky series still ownz a lot of nonsense crap that they show out there nowadays. I think all of us who train in TMA, MMA, etc to a certain extent, have a very fond appreciation and can relate our ways of training to his, whether we compete or not.

I totally agree with you. Rocky is one of the most inspirational movie characters ever. He is also pretty stupid though:p . I loved the first 4 Rocky movies but the last one just turned me the wrong way and it felt like a Cynthia Rothrick movie or something.

Just saw it, great Movie. Very realistic, and Sly does deal with the fact that he and the character are 60.

I recommend all to see it, as there are lots of good lessons to learn from it, and of course it is very inspirational.

I saw it last week and liked it a lot.
IMO, it's the best sequel since at least Rocky 3, if not out of all of them. He totally returns Rocky to his roots. It's much more than a boxing movie; the drama throughout the movie are things that really do happen to people, and this realism, plus the pure heart of the movie, makes it a very good film. I know there are some movie reviewers out there who give condescending, smirky reviews of Rocky Balboa, but the lessons told in it are real and important for anyone. It particularly hits home for those of us who are beginning to get up in numbers.

Just got back from seeing it, and if anyone is a fan of the original, I highly recommend it.

I especially liked the scene with him and his son - "It's not how hard you can hit, it's how many hits you can take".

Awesome.

Saw it this evening (along with Curse of the Golden Flower) and must its a good movie and thoroughly enjoyable.

Gotta also say for a man of 60 Stallone looks great, he's obviously aged since the other Rocky's but still nonetheless looks great. Only hope when I hit that age I will look half as good. :)

That's probably the first movie I've seen in a theater that made me feel really, really good. It's kinda funny, how he went off on the whole "you gotta do it for yourself" thing, but I couldn't help but disagree. He wasn't just doing it for himself, he was doing it for everybody who ever got told they couldn't.

That, and I don't think South Philly's ever been given that much of dead on spotlight before.

Frikken love Rocky. :D

I could've sworn we had a Creed thread going here but it didn't pop in a search. So I'll post this here for lack of another place.

Creed 2: Dolph Lundgren Trains For Drago’s Return (http://screenrant.com/creed-2-dolph-lundgren-drago-workout/?utm_source=SR-FB-P&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_campaign=SR-FB-P&view=list)
By Chris Agar 22 hours ago

http://static1.srcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ivan-drago-screenrant.jpg?cs=tinysrgb&q=20&w=1000&h=500&fit=crop

Dolph Lundgren is hitting the gym to train as he gets in shape to reprise Ivan Drago in the upcoming Creed 2. The actor first portrayed the Russian boxer in 1985’s Rocky IV, becoming one of the franchise’s most notable “villains” due to his brute strength and quotable lines, which included the chilling “I must break you.” While the Rocky films have continued in the three decades since with two direct sequels and the first Creed installment, the character of Drago hasn’t been heard from since he was defeated by the Italian Stallion in their fateful match. That is set to change in the near future, however, with Creed 2 coming through the pipeline.

Earlier this summer, Sylvester Stallone revealed he was working on the screenplay with the hopes of filming in 2018. He also confirmed that Drago would be returning in the sequel, giving the drama a personal layer. Viewers may recall that Apollo Creed, father of Creed‘s protagonist Adonis, was killed during a fight against the Soviet machine. It remains to be seen if Donny will get a revenge shot at Drago, but Lundgren is certainly preparing for such a bout, if his latest social media activity is any indication.

Taking to Instagram, the actor posted a video of him going through an intense workout as he waits for filming to start. In the shot montage, Lundgren lifts weights, does pushups, and even gets some punches in. You can check it out for yourself in the space below:

Going by the hashtags in his post (plus his tagging of Stallone), it’s obvious Lundgren isn’t just doing some exercising for fun. He’s got a big job to get ready for. As Creed 2 makes its way through development, many will be intrigued to see how Drago fits into the narrative. Lundgren is only a few months away from his 60th birthday, meaning it could be a stretch to see him go toe-to-toe with the 30-year old Michael B. Jordan, but it’s still possible. As seen in the clips, Lundgren remains in peak physical condition and he hasn’t shied away from demanding roles in recent years. Not only was he part of Stallone’s Expendables crew, he’ll play King Nerus in James Wan’s Aquaman. Plus, Rocky Balboa depicted an elder Italian Stallion performing admirably in the ring against Mason “The Line” Dixon, so the franchise has pulled this angle off before.

Regardless of whether or not Drago puts on the gloves again, his inclusion in Creed 2 is exciting. While Rocky eventually befriended Apollo (his rival in the first two movies), things were always acrimonious between Balboa and Drago. Their interactions in the followup should be laced with tension, considering their pasts. After the first Creed took the Rocky series back to its roots with a captivating story, hopefully the sequel can follow suit and keep the property off the ropes for at least a couple more years.

Dolph is almost 60 now. I guess in Rocky's world, 60 year-olds are naturally still viable professional fighters. I understand suspension of disbelief for the movies, etc., etc., but this is supposedly about the pro fight game. I don't care how much gym work Dolph/'Ivan Drago' does, or how impressive a shape he's in, he is not the same athlete he was 33 years ago. It would be better if Creed's opponent were Drago's own son, whom he coaches.
