Pardon my ignorance, but what's the "bridge" that he talks about? Is it learning to move through stances?

He is right about most of what he is saying. However, I don't buy his "there is no styles" comments. everyone fights thier own way, and in thier own style.

I Bagua fighter will not fight the same as a Long Fist, or Baiji, or Mantis fighter.

In adddtion to there being different "Styles" of fighting, there are also many different "Systems" or or "Schools" of training both specific styles, and bringing out each individuals own individual style.

Style is a mis understood word. Many people are really refering to various systems of training. This means the curriculem, and various forms taught in relatively the same order and such. For example, Seven Star mantis, and 8 step mantis are not "Styles" persay, thye are two different "Systems" for teaching the fighting style known as Preying Mantis.

The "style" really refers to prefered methods of fighting, and is more analagous to differning musical styles. Heavy Metal might be more analagous to Baiji, and Classical music might be more analogus to Taiji Quan.

Ozzy Osboure would be a different "System" of Heavy Metal, compared to Iron Maiden. But both are still the "Style" of Heavy Metal, compared to Beethoven, or Boc which would both be differnt systems of the musical style known as "Classical" music.

When we talk about "offense methods (not defense methods)", you may be surprise to find out that there are more "similiarity" then difference among CMA styles. For example, the "switching hands" and "bridging" concept are all used in LF, PM, Baiji, Taiji, XingYi, Bagua, WC, Hong Gar, ... It's the defense methods such as yielding, sticking, following, vibration force, side stepping, body spinning, ... that make styles different from each other.

There is no difference among CMA and FMA styles for a simple "punch to the head" and "kick to the nuts".

I think he is talking about the arm technique in Hung Gar.

When your arm or leg made contact with your opponent's arm or leg then his intention can be detected by your sensitive.
