If you were going to spend the next 10 years in LA training with only one internal teacher and money was no object, with whom would you study?

Please, no fighting between posters. Just want personal opinions regarding above question. Trust me to evaluate the voracity and quality of answers myself.

Only looking for raw data for research.

Please proceed in an orderly and academic manner.

Thank you. :)

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare anyone off from also mentioning why along with who.

Thank you for the responses thus far.

Tim Cartmell is THE man.

I work in Woodland Hills (near Northridge) and battle rush hour traffic to study Ba Gua with Tim
in Garden Grove (where the 405 & 22 meet). He's amazing. His prices are great and the stuff he teaches priceless. Anyone who wants to learn to use internal should, at very least, watch a class of his.

I live in Eagle Rock/Mt. Washington (very close
to Glendale)-- on a good traffic day it's only a 30-45 minute drive. Let me know if you want more info or directons... or even a carpool.

Sum Guye, I've seen your posts around lately, I know we train with different teachers but if you are interested in training with some different partners on off days, e-mail me. One of my other training partners has trained in your system too. toddbringewa tt the offer is good for you too. Also, if you are interested I will take you out to bagua class in Monterey Park. I have access to a school in the off hours for training purposes.

Count, I see Jason's site Chi Kung International has a link about Chi Kung (qi gong) but when I visited your classes I didn't observe any qi gong (could of been there, I just could be blind). Does Jason offer any classes soley in qi gong? Pure qi development?

Thanks

We usually do a full set of bagua chi kung Saturday mornings. Jason teaches several different methods. Lately we have been training alot of other stuff so I personally squeeze in the chi kung outside of class. When you come and visit, all you have to do is ask. Jason teaches alot of other things that aren't going on in class.+

I attended a seminar taught by Jason Tsou a couple months back, he definitely has a great deal of skill and was very open in his teaching.

Though I've never met Tim Cartmell, a good friend of mine studies bagua with him. From what I've seen his methods are sound, and he seems like a very friendly teacher.

I'd throw in a plug for our school, but Costa Mesa isn't exactly LA :)

toddbringewatt: Are you looking strictly in LA or the LA county/Orange County area? (Tim Cartmell is in Garden Grove (Orange County))

Count: I visited 2 or 3 times. I'm specificly looking for pure qi qong. No Martial Arts yet.
I didn't realize Jason taught other things than what was displayed at class. Would you say Jason is a Qi Gong Master or an Internal Arts Master who practices Qi Gong? How would you say his qi level is? Does he play push hands?

Thanks

Haven't you seen his videos on the Random Circle? You can order them at our website. (http://chikungintl.com) While Jason's knowledge is extreamly vast, I would say he is a martial arts teacher. As far as his level of chi, well, you just have to feel him to understand. I could not describe it in words so that you will understand.

toddbringewatt,
Another teacher of internal styles in the same area is Master Gong Zhong Xiang. He is an older man who is also in Monterey Park. I have not met him, YET, but I have heard he is also one of the best. His website is Imperial Palace Bagua. (http://www.imperial-bagua.com) Also, If you are interested in Jiulong Bagua, (Dr. Painters system) Look up John Adams at the House of Champions in Van Nuys. His website is Nine Dragon Center (http://internalartscenter.com/)

Wen Mei Yu teaches Wu style Taiji. Never seen her, heard she's good. Dunno if she teaches fighting.

I will agree with Count on the subject of Master Gong Zhong Xiang. However, he also is very expensive. In fact, I second the suggestions of the three Masters listed (Jason Tsou, Tim Cartmell, and Master Gong Zhong Xiang). I have seen all three and see quality in each school. Jason has far and away been the most reasonably priced class and best value I've found in Southern California. There are some specific things I'm looking for though that hold me back.

My purpose for training with a Qi Gong Master is the Master can help your progress tremendously. He can evaluate your body and help open your channels with HIS qi. Anyone can teach exercises (I have a boat load) but to train with a true Qi Gong Master is truely a treat.

Don't know that address, I'll ask around.

Beiquan, Jason's Chen Tai Chi Chuan is superb. Some of our guys come from the West side. I have been carpooling with a guy coming all the way from Ventura. I'm out in Moorpark which is a good hour drive too. It's worth the trip I make 2 or 3 times a week. I know one guy who takes the bus all the way from UCLA area. Let me ask around and see if I can hook you up. ;)

I have noted on this forum the people in this section seem to be very sincere and honest in their approach to IMA. Would any one be interested in setting up some type of offline e-mail system to put people in contact with each other for training partners ?

if not cool, just a thought!

A note about Jason Tsou's class - though the instruction is top notch, the class is pretty informal. Right now he mostly is only teaching bagua and baji/pigua. He knows some longfist, shuai chiao, mantis, and chen style (and maybe other stuff too) but he often doesn't teach them. Don't be afraid to ask though, cause he's a nice guy and won't mind.

That said, go anyway, cause bagua is cool, and I bet baji is too (I'm gonna give it a try in a little while).

And his class is the best value I've come across in martial arts.

There's also a gentleman named John Bracy (Hsing Chen)who teaches Ba Gua, Tai Ji and Chi Gung in Costa Mesa. His website is www.chiarts.com (http://www.chiarts.com)

Might be worth checking out...
I have also been told there's a gentleman named Denny Wang teaching Wang Shu Jin's style of Neijia in a park in Orange County as well (I believe he teaches in Brea). His contact information is listed at http://www.taichi-chuan.com/nextver/eng/world.htm
under instruction in Los Angeles.

Hope this helps.
