Many styles claim descent from Shaolin through one or more of the revolutionary sects from the Qing Dynasty- the Heaven and Earth Society (aka the Triads) the Hung Mun, the Red Spears, the Hatchet Men- etc.

It had long been thought that the arts practiced by the current Temple is nothing more than a farce. We all claim to have some piece of the Shaolin Temple within our lineage, but we're all wrong. Dead Wrong.

It seems the TRUE Shaolin style has survived the introduction of firearms, occupation by the japanese, the Cultural Revolution, Modern Wushu, and that English-dub-only copy of Fist of Legend. Due to its secrecy and probable Criminal origins, this style seems to have no name outside of its own circles, so I will call it For Real Shaolin (FRS.) Without further ado, the evidence.

I present this video as Exhibit A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvU4dw7i9GY&mode=related&search=
As you can see, the FRS Student squares off against what is OBVIOUSLY a Modern Wushu player- I mean, just look at him jump around. The FRS disciple however, is not letting the disadvantage of his longer reach and larger size slow him down, and gets right to work. Look! None of those fake low stances that play no part in REAL TCMA. And none of those wushu jump kicks that have never EVER EVER been in TCMA either. I would rest my case, but more compelling evidence awaits.

Look at that Ditang Quan at the beginning! Top notch, and devoid of Modern aesthetic embellishments! The blonde disciple opens up with no-touch strikes, while the girl in the dark sweater struggles to use her repetoire of Drunken techniques. After exhausting her Chi, the blonde starts in with Animal-techniques, which I think you'll agree, shows CONCLUSIVELY that this is For Real Shaolin. As you can see by their crying and wailing, their Ch'an Bhuddist sensibilities have been honed to the point that even a friendly match proves too violent, the possible karmic reciprocation too great to continue.

Apparently, weapons training is very much preserved in FRS training. The FRS disciple spars a Japanese practitioner, and thankfully it's none of that blasphemous "2 man set" stuff. This is the real deal.

I heard these guys only let you train with them if you save one of their lives. If you're a high-level disciple you'll be trained to walk from a sitting position using only your glutes. Since my training obviously pales in comparison, I guess I'll have to just end it all by sailing a ship off of the edge of the earth.

(sorry... I was bored while waiting for my sparring partner. Have a happy Sunday, all! :) )
