My pick:

The Thunder Zone. Fayetteville, NC, USA.

Muay Thai. USMTA-affiliated camp.

Reasonable rates, good skill-level and everyone is there to learn.

Being as it is the only Muay Thai gym in Fayetteville, of all places, it's not a good gym for milquetoasts or people who don't train more than a couple hours per week. Lot's of bootboys from Bragg, who define themselves by their ability to mangle other people, train there. Serious environment. Leave your ego in your locker.

I truly believe anyone would benefit from a day/week/month of training with Master David Bond Chan.... the man is a mechanical/structure genious. He also has a very compact, efficient and easy hand-to-hand method.

He's located in Queens. Also teaches weapons.


Also, Master Renzo Gracie. I've never had more fun, or worked so hard, training. Very good instructors. Great facility with lockers, multiple showers/toilets. Lots of mat space and people willing to use it.

Based mid-town. Kind of pricey, but can train as often as one wants. They now offer Muay Thai and Coperia their as well.

South Hills Judo Club (http://www.southhillsjudo.org)
they have insturctors who have competed all over the earth, including a United States Olympic Judo player. The price can't be beat. At the same facility there is a muay thai team and a brazillian jiu jitsu teacher is coming. (they rent space from the judo club). They all compete and encourage everyone to compete, they have programs for kids and adults. After they coordinate everything with the BJJ guy (gracie brown belt) you will be able to buy an MMA pass to attend all classes there. Oh, in Pittsburgh PA

Amazing all around knowledge. Takes an extremely technical approach with regards, to structure, mechanics, qi utilization and application. Views KF and TC not as a pain oriented MAs but as a means to control a conflict. Hands down the best instructor I have ever worked with.

That is fine.

The intent of this thread is to point out instructors/schools that people here have trained with, and vouch for.

A big problem for those who are just getting into Martial Arts, or are looking to try something outside their experience (CMA, for me, as I have trained solely within Japanese-derived systems), simply don't know who is good and who is a McDojo.

It's still only subjective opinions, but it's a lot better than just picking schools out of a phonebook.

based in kent, UK, an all round really nice guy and teaches practical martial arts with some traditional stuff thrown in. loads of fitness and conditioning too. keeps me fit and well able to defend myself.

Traditional old school self defense

Our school is one of the few remaining TRADITIONAL FIGHTING SCHOOLS (well maybe in our neighborhood). Even though we practice forms alot, fighting (not just sparring) is required. When we fight or spar, taking it to the ground is common, choking someone out is common etc etc.
