Hi,

Has anyone got any thoughts on learning Chinese Calligraphy? I know I can buy books and possibly video material but it seems like I would be far better off with an actual instructor, much like in the fighting arts. That being said I have doubts that there is anyone that teaches in my area. Know of any correspondance courses or anything like that? Thanks

Mitch

No Know of correspondance cources. But if you do not want to learn stuff you might have to un learn at least look at a lot of examples of it. Zhongwen.com might have caligraphy-ish...the character and stroke order.

I would recommend practice holding ink pens or pencils or brushes with three fingers with enough strength to write. Practicethis forwhen you do get an instructor. Keep your hand above the paper and off of the paper.

There is a LOT of reference material at www.chinabooks.com

You might find something there that would be helpful.
