It's kind of cool in a repititive sort of way.

Some of the obstacles are awesomely brutal, and so many fail in that comical japanese gameshow motif.

Pretty amazing and entertaining course -- the cliffhanger part looks really tough in particular. Nagano looks like Spiderman in the final stage too ... not sure if I would watch this show regularly but it's fun and I wonder how I would do. While we're on the subject, anyone remember the show American Gladiators from the 90's?

There's this game show in Japan called Ninja Warrior (Sasuke). It kicks the crap out of American Gladiators, and it's not even in the same league as Fear Factor.

I just saw another episode of Ninja Warrior tonight. That is the coolest show ever. Out of 100 competitors, none of them could finish all three events. This show is not for pussies. The **** they have to do is ****ing hard.

Ninja Warrior is so bad ass the last round doesn't even have a time limit. And even so, only one (or two) guys EVER have completed it. Think about that. You have UNLIMITED TIME and still almost no one can finish it.

Here is a link to one man's performance in all the events. The first round might seem relatively mild, but keep watching. This is no joke. This is one of two men ever out of 500 to complete it.

Note - In round two, the gates they have to lift are 30kg, 40kg, and 50kg. Yes, that's not much, cuz 50kg is like 110lbs, but for the rest of it? Insane.

Yeah, that show's awesome. There was another of it's type with some kinda Viking format I saw on ESPN 2 at 4am about a year ago, but it involved questions in the middle of obstacles, that if not answered correctly got the contestant dunked.


Also, about the gate lifting. I figured the reason they weren't so "heavy" was that most of the guys are gonna be pretty drained by that point, since at least the first two rounds happen in that day.


Either way though, great frikken show. It's the only thing worth watching on G4.

Well, that and most of these competitors are only around 150lbs or so themselves. Hanging by your fingertips isn't a sport for heavyweights.

They try to make their own apparatuses that mimic the actions of the contest.

My boys and I have watched the show for years now. Sometimes they will do a profile on the leading contenders and show their training apparatuses.

I used to watch ninja warrior, they had some good stuff on there. Japanese def. have some strange shows, but this one was actually pretty tame and they have had americans on there as well. You can catch it on G4.

I love that show. I was going to audition to be on it in 2007 before it got all mainstream and there were no American tryouts, but I ended up getting sick and not making a video.

I was just going to send a video of me being awesome to their studio in Japan. I think I would've gotten accepted. They love Americans :)

Now it's super hard to get on. There are tryouts with 100s of people just for a few American slots.

This show is really good, been watching it for a while now. A lot better than some of the stuff on the box. There is another cool Japanese obstacle course show on G4 that I don't recall the name of but when I saw it the contestants were stilt walking through a pretty crazy setup. Came on right around the time NW was on.

In a chat with USA TODAY, Graff said she wanted to be a testament to the strength of women.

"My first year doing Ninja Warrior, I didn’t really know what it was about," she confessed. "After that, when so many people were like, 'I didn’t know women could do that,' I thought, 'Then, we better show you."

A gold medal for Ninja Warrior skills? It’s not as far-fetched as you might think.

Japanese TV network TBS, creator of the original Ninja Warrior reality competition format, revealed Monday that the show’s signature obstacle course will be tested for possible inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Ninja Warrior course is under consideration to be added as the new fifth discipline of the Modern Pentathlon, a regular medal sport at the Summer Olympics. Modern Pentathlon previously has consisted of five disciplines: fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, laser pistol shooting and running. But the organizers of the sport, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), announced in May that an obstacle course would be tested as a potential replacement for the riding discipline after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to the UIPM, two types of obstacle sports will be considered and tested: one of these is Ninja Competitions, the sport invented and made popular worldwide by the Ninja Warrior TV show and its many localized remakes. The first test competition will be held in Ankara, Turkey, in late June, immediately after the UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Final in the capital city. TBS is collaborating with the test organizers by providing a Ninja Warrior obstacle course for use as a demonstration of the event in Turkey. The course they are putting forward is the same one currently used to film local versions of Ninja Warrior in France, Poland and other European countries. TBS says the obstacles featured will include The Wall Flip, Parallel Pipes, Wind Chimes and Tire Swing. Olympic Pentathletes and Ninja Warrior champions from around the world will practice June 27 to compete for the first time as Olympic hopefuls, of a sort, on June 28.

“UIPM has undertaken a comprehensive and transparent process to transform Modern Pentathlon into one of the most popular, accessible and exciting sports on the Olympic program,” said UIPM President Klaus Schormann. “The upcoming first Obstacle Discipline Test Event in Ankara will be an important step and we look forward to watching pentathletes and obstacle athletes test themselves on the obstacles provided in collaboration with TBS and the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles.”

Ninja Warrior, known as Sasuke in Japan, first aired on TBS in 1997. After it became a smash local hit, the format began to sell globally — and today it can be seen in 160 countries, with local versions produced in over 20 nations.

Added Taro Muraguchi, program producer at TBS: “I am very excited to hear that the program that began in 1997 on TBS has become popular around the world and may now expand its reach even further. I am really looking forward to seeing Ninja Warrior on the Olympic stage as a Modern Pentathlon event.”
