I think some members of the International Hoplology Society have documented their training in Malaysia. The guys in the book written by Draeger are still pretty active. Check out the IHS's homepage (http://www.hoplology.com) if you're interested in any documentation.

I was wondering if anyone who is extremely educated in the Chuka Shaolin Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu would be interested in sending me information on it? I will be obtaining a copy of Cheong Cheng Leong' s book, but wish to know more about current teachings or students of the art. In particular if it is being taught anywhere in the world today, and in what manners (ie: partly used/taught in a Kung Fu school)
This information will possibly be used by myself in a manuscript and I would like the most possible accuracy before I can write it.
Thanks
Desiree

I have a copy of the book you mentioned, excellent! It goes into the history of Chuka Shaolin and teaches a couple of short forms. Worth getting!

Hi folks,

Just in case you didn't know, GM Cheong is appearing in this September's gathering in Sarawak.

Will be meeting him again next week in Penang and I hope to get him to conduct a workshop on his style of Chu Gar.

Warmest Regards.

hi Eric,
Doesn't GM Cheong have a sihing/sipak that just concentrated on the healing aspects of chu ka who developed it to a high degree. Is the healing side of chu ka still being taught & practiced???.BTW the work that you are doing asRE to the gathering is GREAT.

cheers

Hi and thank you Ericling,
I have been looking through the book, and have found the history of Chu-ka to be very interesting as I had wondered where it had originated and enjoyed the history of each person down.
The nun and two sisters was quite fascinating (going out and watching insects and animals and returning to show the nun), and I have discovered a profound amoung of coincidences to Phoenix Eye Fist Kung Fu in many different levels as the research continues.
The You Tube link is also wonderful and I was wondering if this footage was personally obtainable? I'd like to know more on how Phoenix became the name used for the fist and its connection to the legendary Phoenix bird.
Knowledge however, is never ending, and I hope to continue to learn more. If I am fortuante enough to meet GM Cheong Chen Leong and travel to Malaysia I will do so (in September)
In closing, I thank you again for this vast knowledge, and in case I do not get the chance to meet GM Cheong Chen Leong and anyone here does, please send my regards to him about his book.

Nothing beats talking and playing with GM Cheong in person; I should know, I did it recently...........

Warmest Regards.

Master Cheong seems to be a true modern fighting master. I haven't met him but I trained under Donn Draeger and Quintin Chambers who knew him slightly. They both had great respect for him, and they were practitioners of Chinese arts themselves(Quintin still is). I heard something once about Cheong being the sole deterrent to pirates in his area. If you have a chance to be in his presence and listen to his stories you are blessed.

Sifu Cheong has retired from teaching kungfu in year 2011. After that his student Stephen Choe has continued to teach Chu Ka until now. He is the one who got the real essence of Chu Ka and the only student who is still training hard now. The rest of sifu Cheong's students are not training anymore. I got to know that due to some internal politic issue in the Chu Ka association, Stephen has resigned from the association and formed his own association because he was suppressed by a group of seniors who have stopped training kungfu for long time and suddenly appeared to overpowered Stephen position as the secretary of the association. They did this because they knew that they can make use of Chu Ka for their own fame. After that, they even do not allow Stephen to use the name of Chu Ka. Some of the guys have heavy triad background so Stephen has to force to hide his Chu Ka behind the newly created name "Phoenix Fist". Now the Chu Ka association has no quality people to teach kungfu and no class as of now. The only Chu Ka (Phoenix Fist) class now in Penang is instructed by Stephen Choe. The following is his FB contact.
