Martial arts in the U.S. is so boring now, so what do you think would be a new good format for a new martial arts show???

I'm thinking something on the order of UFC except with chick fighting, and with traditional martial arts styles, no holds barred -- fight to knockout, winner takes all with big prizes like Ferraris, houses, stuff like that.

And more traditional stylists. Can't stand this kickboxing / grappling crud.

Hello,

There actually is a UFC type chick fighting. It's called Model Boxing and it's on Pay Per View. I know this because I was asked to audition for it. I turned it down though, because they want all the girls to take off their clothes at one point and pose nude. Yeah, it's really hard for woman to make it in the biz, without having to do that at some point. It's a sacrifice I'm not willing to make.

Maybe you could post some semi nude photos of yourself right here on this board.

What do you think? I personally think it's a great idea. ;)

Just kidding of course (well not really) but kudos to you for having some self respect. :D

Posing nude is kindof pointless. You can get all the naked pics on the Internet you want already.

Yeah, look at this ... it's just boxing. http://www.modelboxing.com/index.html

No, I mean, traditional styles.

You know, I hate to say it, but realistically I guess we can't really expect to take women fighters seriously ... if they're tough then they're kindof like men, like women bodybuilders who take steroids and stuff.

Kindof like taking men who model nude seriously ... can't really expect to take men who model nude seriously either. LOL

I really, really hate to say it but I have to find a woman, no matter what level of training she has, that even comes close to giving me a good challenge in a friendly spar.

I keep looking for the woman who compensate for lack of strenght with cat style quickness and precision striking. I have yet to find her....I'm sure she's out there somewhere.

However, speaking of women in MA, I really enjoy that Canadian TV show called "Deadly Arts" that follows Josette Normandeau acoss the world practicing different styles.

Well they don't have to fight men. They could fight each other.

Maybe that Canadian show is on cable. I'll have to check.

It's on Fit TV and it's a national geographic series.

Here's what it says about it on the website:

"The series explores 6 different martial arts, Aikido, Capoeira, Karate, Kalaripayyattu, Savate and Muay Thai, in the country of their origin and examines technique, culture, history and philosophy.

Our host Josette Normandeau trains with the masters in each martial art. The series has proven popular worldwide and we believe the DVD will be as well."

I think it's a great series. Props to Josette who trains hard and does well in all these disciplines.

Well, unfortunately I've already come across all of those. Nothing very interesting there.

You've watched all of them? I find it strange you would watch the entire series.

Had I found them boring I would have turned it off 30 minutes into the first one.

I think you are right for the most part. But I've seen some pretty fierce woman fighters that were also very feminine and good looking. But I know what you mean. The media often portrays the tough chicks to be very guyish. Perhaps it's the women that don't want to be seen as feminine, or maybe it's just a stigma. Tough=Male. I beg to differ though. Us gals have to give birth. And that is by far the toughest thing the body has to go through.

Men modeling nude. LOL. I don't think I've seen that in my lifetime. I hope I never do. No matter how good looking a guy is, that just CAN'T be a pretty sight.

That IMHO is just an means by which women get sympathy points. If it giving birth were so bad women wouldn't volunteer to do it twice or more, and plenty do.

To stop it before it starts (or do I mean to really kick it off?! ;) ):

1) as with anything there are many different ways of measuring strength and toughness.

2) Women have bodies which can give birth. Men don't. Trying to draw any conclusions about toughness from that is stupid.

Kindof like taking men who model nude seriously ... can't really expect to take men who model nude seriously either. LOLOh no! I used to be an artists' model, does that mean you're not going to take me seriously?! And who am I talking to again? :p

There are already fighting sports for women: Shooto and Deep have women's divisions, though there's nothing as high level as Pride/UFC. I don't think it would take off or the promoters would have done it by now. It's part nurtured sexism and part genetic but most people don't really want to see two women slugging it out so much.

Besides this (http://martial.best.vwh.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44829) is the only women's fight sport you'll ever really need!

Obviously I'm being partly facetious about the sympathy points. I have no idea if it hurts as much as they say it does or not.

However it is perfectly irrational and illogical that if it truly hurt that much that women would volunteer to go through it over again and several times, which begs the question.

one of the best fighters i know is a women. teresa lee, at elite tae kwon do in kzoo. i sparred with her regularly before she received her black belt. thanks to those encounters i received two broken toes, a chipped tooth, and plenty of bruises. a week after 9/11 lee flew to korea and challenged the top ranking women in her belt and weight class. she kicked her ass and flew back home. her students usually bring home 75% or more of the trophies for any tournament they go to. i'm very confident in my own abilities and i'm not insecure to admit that she kicked my ass on many occasions.
as for chick fights we had a match of two women in the last toughman cage fights i was in. it wasn't as exciting as you would think. really kind of depressing. the hope is that they will stop fighting and start french kissing at some point. never happens and they walk out uglier then when they walked in. and the girls that sign up for it are not much to look at anyway. that fantasy should just die one day. finding a woman that can kick as is one thing, the ones that are out there are more secure with their own selfesteem to not enter into a match like that.
any girl that would sign up to do a show like chinsdoll talked about 1. has low self esteem and 2. isn't going to be good at fighting. it would be a few beotch slaps and some hair pulling. i see that in my own neighborhood all the time for free and it's not entertaining until the cops i called show up.

Lonewolf -- I met Teresa Lee a few years ago when I was living in Grand Rapids, MI. I visited her school when I was looking for a new school in the area. I watched one of her classes and she is, as you say, quite fierce and talented. She has a very interesting story too -- overcoming obesity and working very hard while juggling a nursing career and raising a family to become a very successful entrepeneur. Her story should be an inspiration to all aspiring women. Here is a pretty neat article on her: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1264/is_6_33/ai_93084933/pg_1

Regarding the comment that girls in the KFF show "must have low self-esteem" -- I can say from meeting them that the quite the opposite is true -- I think you need a certain confidence just to appear and perform in public like that, whether you are an actor, musician, public speaker, etc. There is a certain stage fright you have to face and overcome to perform in that capacity. I'm sure we have all had butterflies in our stomachs when competing in a tournament, knowing that we are under watchful eyes. I think it is natural to be somewhat self-concious and worried about how you are being perceived, but someone with low self esteem would likely not have the courage to even put themselves in that kind of situation in the first place. Just my thoughts...

you got a limited view of the world my man. take me for example. im short and ungly with a little p3cker but if i were just the opposite i could be a male model. and if i could make some decent flow by working far fewer hours each week, what do you think id spend my extra free time doing? sure some of it would be spent looking at animal porn on the internet, but a great deal of it would be spent lifting and training. which would only make me far tougher than i already am. which would raise my toughness to somewhat tough which would be totally sweet.

See, I'm and devilishly handsome and hung like a donkey (in fact that may have been me in one of those vids you were watching GDA - the thick black donkey hairs worry some people but...) and I made up a lot of money! So that's one for the haters! :p
