Hi all,

I recently purchased some multi-movie packs, mainly because they were inexpensive. I know a few varieties of these exist, but I am mainly discussing the sets that have more than just 2 or 4 movies.

The ones I just bought are:

Martial Arts Masters, 9 movies(St.Clair Vision).
Fists of Fire, Swords of Death, 10 movies(Brentwood).
The Art of Fighting, 10 movies(Brentwood).
Legends of Kung Fu, 10 movies(Brentwood).

Anyone have these? I bought them online just today.

Also, I saw these available:

Return of the Warriors, 20 movies.
Kung Fu 20 Movie Pack.
Martial Arts 50 Movie Pack.
Tough Guys of Kung Fu, 10 movies.
Martial Arts Collection, 9 movies.
Kung Fu Collection, 13 movies.
Kung Fu Crusade, 10 movies.

These above are the Public Domain sets and have many of the same movies on different sets.

and these:
Shaw Martial Arts Legends, 10 movies.
Shaw Legends Pack, 8 movies.
Martial Temple Collection, 10 titles.

I don't think these are Public Domain titles.

Anyone have these? Did I miss any? Opinions? Reviews?

In the 9 pack check out the Streetfighter movies, Shogun's Ninja, and Fist of Fury.

On the 10 pack called fists of fire check out Kung fu Ace. And Lightning Kung Fu is the AKA for Killer Constable. It is cut, but it is still awesome. One of the Shaw Brothers best movies ever.

Be sure to get the 50 pack, that thing is super cheap. I think I listed some good movies from it on another thread.

The Brentwood 10 pack called Tough Guys of Kung Fu is also good. Here are the good movies on it-

Dragon On Fire-Bolo, Phillip Ko, Tino Wong, John Liu, Chan Lau, and the mega-force that is, Dragon Lee.

Killign Machine-Awesome Sonny Chiba movie.

Militant Eagle-good fun. 25 minutes of battles at the end.

Crippled Masters-a bad movie, but unique. Trust me.

There is also a movie where a guy gets his intestines ripped out and then another guy gets strangled by them.

And DO NOT buy any VideoAsia packs.

Also, look for Rarescope movies. All of their movies are good and only 6.99 at Best Buy. Ninjas and Dragons would be the least recommended out of all the titles but they are all good.

Some Rarescope movies to look for-Showdown at the Cottonmill,Face Behind the Mask, Lost Swordship(sort of a drama, but still good), Drunken dragon, Elimination Pursuit, and Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu.

I got the "Martial Arts Masters" 9 pack for Christmas from my dad, who knows I LOVE goofy/cheesy kung fu movies. Jethro is right, Street Fighter, Shogun's Ninja and "Fist of Fury" are good finds to have in one set.

That set also includes "Rage of the Masters." Don't get me wrong, it's a terrible, terrible movie with little-to-no martial arts value (the fight scenes are terrible, sloppy high kicks, and if I were a Muay Thai practitioner I would be VERY VERY offended.)

But it does have quite a bit of unintentional hilarity. For one thing, it's dubbed- and just about every speech impediment known to man is adequately represented. I'm not just talking about "white guy trying to sound Asian-ish" though there is a bit of that. There's lisping, slurring, the whole nine yards. It's like they told a speech therapy class "Hey guys, for your final exam, you're going to dub a kung fu movie!" But the funniest part comes when the "Thai Boxers" attempt to do a Wai Kru that ends up looking like a prance around the ring, Richard Simmons style. If you end up getting that 9 pack, and you've got some friends over, watch that one, and TELL ME you don't think "Which way did he go, George?" Whenever "Tiger Wong" speaks.

And for what it's worth, Drunken Dragon (one of the Rarescope movies Jethro mentioned) had some pretty good action scenes, but was easily one of the funniest kung fu movies I have ever seen. And it didn't have hard/impossible to see subtitles!!
I love the goofy machinery, the wierd Daoist Computer that shoots arrows, the "human car via bladed dumbbells", the "fish as comb." and who could forget "Candlehead Man!" he brought back some 8-bit memories for me.

Get the 50 pack. Tung Wei and Yen Shi Kwan go at it hard in Shadow Ninja and there are a bnch of other good movies on there. MAybe 5 of the movies aren't martial arts. but they still have action in them.

Today I got in the mail:

The Brentwood 10 movie set,
Legends of Kunf Fu.

Kinda shabby case and a few spots on some discs, but so slight, and they overall look in very good shape, I can't complain though, cuz it was one cent, plus the shipping. I hate being such a picky perfectionist.

I haven't watched any of them yet:
1.Blind Fist of Bruce.1979.
2.Fist of Fear, Tough of Death(I've seen this one).1980.
3.Kung Fu: The Punch of Death.1973.
4.The 36 Crazy Fists.1977.
5.Legend of the 8 Samurai.1983.
6.Blood of the Dragon.1973.
7.Shogun's Ninja.1980.
8.Bloodfight.1989.
9.The Street Fighter.1974.
10.Breathing Fire.1991.

Also, I got,
Super Kung Fu Box Set, on Videoasia.
It was only four dollars plus shipping, like new shape.

I haven't seen these yet either:
1.Kung Fu Zombie.
2.Fistful of Talons.
3.Rickshaw Man.
4.Way of Fox.
5.Monkey King with 72 Magic.
6.Ninja Untouchables.
7.Ninja Killer.
8.Shaolin Posse.
9.Snake Strikes Back.
10.Black Eagles Blade.

I haven't look up the years for these.

That's what I got recently, haven't seen any of these I know of, excpet that one in the Legends set.

Comments?

Is Shadow Ninja actually The Killer Wears White retitled?

I have read some bad stuff about the quality of Videoasia, and Brentwood too, but I have noticed the quality varies a lot in these budget releases. Sometimes they can be great, and sometimes unwatchable. I've mainly been wanting to watch the Legends of Kunf Fu set movies first, as some of these I have heard of, and never saw, like The Street Fighter. I just watched Blind Fist of Bruce last night, and thought it was very good and enjoyable. Next on my watching agenda is Kung Fu: The Punch of Death.

I did sample one of the Videoasia discs, I think the one with Rickshaw man, maybe not, I don't remember, I just wanted to see how it played. One movie looked decent, and was dubbed, the other looked rather low video quality and had some subtitles which seemed to run off my screen, but my TV is messed up a little too, and it may not be the disc, for I have another things with subs that are written very low on the screen and they cut of on my main watching TV, but if I put it in the other TV, it's all visible. But I have read in reviews of some subs being cut off. So, overall, I haven't watched enough of the Videoasia set to really comment.

I will warn you right now. do not watch Rickshaw Man. I think it is directed by Joseph Kuo but it is one of the worst movies ever. I found it a little better than Blind fist of Bruce, so you may actually like it:p

Out of that Video Asia 10 pack, watch Kung Fu Zombie and then fistful of Talons. Those are the only decent movies in there.

Jimbo-yes, Shadow Ninja is retitled. To me, Killer Wears White is a good enough name:rolleyes: The 50 pack are all bootlegs so maybe they were just trying to hide the fact that they haev a classic like Killer Wears White on there.

I'll wait for that one to get a proper release. As you know, I neither like nor trust Videoasia. They really can ruin the chances for many good films to get released properly. (though they seem less and less now, what with Celestial and some others coming out now).

Shadow Ninja is in the 50 pack and is not from Video Asia. I think that bootlegger is called Treeline Films. Not a good copy, but the 50 pack is still mroe than worth it.

Yesterday, I got in the mail 2 sets:

Martial Arts Masters 9 movie set on St.Clair Vision label.

It has:

1. The Real Bruce Lee(1973).
2. Bruce Lee: The Man, The Myth(1976).
3. Fists of Fury(1971).
4. Street Fighter(1974).
5. Return of Street Fighter(1974).
6. Sister Street Fighter(1974).
7. Shogun's Ninja(1980).
8. Ninja Wars(1982).
9. Rage of the Master(1975 or 76?).

I noticed another Rage of the Master made in 76 aka Hero, I don't know which one this is.

I have seen Bruce Lee: The Man, the Myth, a long time ago. I just watched The Street Fighter. And maybe I saw Rage of the Master, I'm not sure, but this is on a disc I got a while back.

Also I got Fists of Fire, Swords of Death 10 movie set on Brentwood BCI label.

It has:

1. Kung Fu On Sale(1985).
2. Lightning Kung Fu(1980).
3. Dragon Lee Vs. The Five Brothers(1978).
4. Thousand Mile Escort(1976).
5. Fighting Ace(1979).
6. Hero's Blood(1991).
7. Shaolin Vs. Manchu(19?).
8. Swordsman with an Umbrella(1970).
9. Macho Man(1985).
10. Monkey Fist, Floating Snake(1979).

Haven't seen any of these yet.

The Chosen One.

Kung Fu for Sale-not that bad. There is 1 scene in particular that has some great cinematography. The movie is pretty much a ripoff of Drunken MAster. The villain has some good legwork, it was watchable.

Lightning Kung Fu-mother freaking AWESOME!!!!!

Fighting Ace-some dam good legwork by John Liu

Swordsman With an Umbrella-I haev seen this like 5 times, and it gets better every time. Up there with Undefeatable as the best bad movie ever.

Monkey fist Floating Snake-The muscular monk from Shaolin vs. Lama is in this. After the villain(Chang Yi) gets defeated, he goes back for training. I kind of liked that twist even though the movie blew a$$.

All of the others are complete crap. I think Monkey Fist was filmed in 79, but the rest don't seem to match up.

Be sure to tell me what you think of Lightning Kung Fu. As long as you don't expect fists of fire, you should be fine. It is a dark Shaw Brothers swordplay.

Yesterday, I got the Brentwood BCI 10 movie set, The Art of Fighting. When I opened the package, I was very unhappy, 2 of the discs were badly cracked, and the rest were pretty scuffed up(like misused Blockbuster exrentals). I guess this is the chance when buying from Amazon sellers, but I am really disappointed that someone plug their crap as "like new". I bought these sets because I found them really cheap from Amazon sellers. The Legends of Kung Fu was a penny, but it was semi crappy, but they refunded me when I told them how the discs all had marker writing on them on the label area. The Fists of Fire was in like new shape, and the Martial Arts Masters was like new, and the same for the Super Kung Fu Box Set, but this The Art of Fighting Set is in the shape that would be fifty cents at the Goodwill. Anyway, I wrote them an email yesterday, and I haven't gotten a reply back, I paid a total of over six dollars for it, and with the cracked discs, I want a refund, and I'm willing to send it back if needed. But even with these two sets that weren't "great" shape, I'd say 99 percent of the time I am happy buying from various Amazon sellers.
