This has already been posted on MAP, but for those of you who haven't seen it:

Here is the link someone sent me:
http://wugong.satirio.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=91

The video itself is found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgLITXrsjN0 (Lau gar guys starts 1min in)

According to the commentry this is Xiao Yong Ding (Siu Wing Ding in Cantonese) of Guangdong province Lau Gar - the same Lau Gar as in Hung, Lau, Choy, Li, Mok - the 5 Southern Chinese kung fu families.

He is the sifu from Zongshan city that all the Internet searches point to for mainland China Lau Gar

And the same guy doing a "nine ring sabre" (horse chopping sword) form:

Now THAT's interesting...

IMHO (and I know nothing of Lau gar proper) Looks like that could very well be the real deal. Looks authentic enough, has the intricate handwork Lau gar is supposed to have, also it feels very southern - resembles some mok gar clips I have seen, or older Hung Gar from mainland (dan gung fuk fu).

Great find.

Yes, but only the two I've mentioned are Lau Gar.

Still, the others are great to watch for the other southern arts.

sorry,I didnt mean to lead the thread into another direction..

those 2 clips u mentioned looked very powerful, and the empty handform reminded me somewhat to a form from Lau Kim which i posted on youtube..
He does Hung Gar ,so everybody says...but the form I know from him dont look and dont feel like Hung Gar..so maybe he has got a Lau Gar influence..?

Xiao Yongding. If it's true what they wrote in the other Nanfangdaily article, he was over 70 in 2004, and those clips are from 2006. I'm really impressed.

That Lao Kim form is very bizarre! Doesn't seem to be similar to anything really, loks of random moves that look Lau-ish, but then being a southern style you are going to get that alot.

Actually, he, i.e., Lao Kim, has a fojiaquan/faht ga kyuhn (Buddhist Family Fist) flavor...

That particular lu (way), seems like a generic nanquan, ala, hongjiaquan.

Wow, reminds me of foziquan (Buddha Character Fist) of Fojiaquan (Buddhist Family Fist).

Seeing that particular lu (way/set) reminds me of a hypothesis that I have been working on for years; pre-twentieth century wushu (martial arts) were more compact then twentieth century, which are more open; I personally, attribute this to the teaching methodology.

Pre-twentieth styles were taught usually in a family or one on one setting; hence, more intricate, i.e., compact, because more time could be spent in polishing/improving; were as styles (shi) taught in a group format, have a tendency to be more open, which is easier to teach. (Again, this is a hypothesis; work in progress.) :)

I can't see that video for some reason. Is it a different set to the one I posted? And does it say what it is?

Different it is of Master Xiao back in the 1980's performing the Ng Ying Kuen Set (5 Animals/Shapes) of Lau Ga.

Never heard of any Lau Gar books - any idea where you got it from?

Or author/publisher/ISBN number would be really helpful!
