I figured some of you may find interest in this as we frequently discuss it. long story short, we get into it with three guys who refused to leave. I have one in a standing rnc and other bouncers have the other two. we get them outside and let them go, but one decides to swing at one of our guys. the swing was blocked, I grabbed the guy and snapped his head down. his buddies come to help him, and in all of the pushing, dude and I go down.

he was on top of me, I had him in half guard and pulled full. his buddies were being restrained by other bouncers, so I had time. I didn't wanna stay on bottom in a fight though, so I swept him. I ended up with a full mount a choked him, but in the process my elbow rubbed the concrete, scraping it. it is nothing that will kill me, but it's a pretty nice scrape. no glass was present, possibly some loose rock or gravel. no real discomfort while I was down there.

That sucks, but in your line of work you probably can't do much striking.

You gotta watch out for rocks, too, plus you never know what crap literally is on the ground. You must have used plenty of antiseptic on the thing.

yeah they disallow strikes unless absolutely necessary. I put all sorts of crap on it, from peroxide to triple antibiotic.

OK, dumb striker question, how do you sweep from a half guard on your back? Did I understand correctly?

Is it that kind of thing where you get one hook in grab the arm on the same side and push on the opposite hip with a back arch, or something more groovy?

Is it notable that you didn't feel any pain when you did it, only noticing after the altercation?

BTW, you should cauterise that wound with a bowie knife right out of the campfire. Works a treat.

THAT'S why bouncers are supposed to wear big thick black coats!

Questions for 7:

Why didn't you try to get up from being on your back when in half guard? Why did you feel the need to go to full guard first?

Was it because this is what you were taught the strategy/sequence should be - and you just did it automatically....

or did you first test the waters about escaping/reversing and decided that you needed full guard?

I had in full guard. you can do half guard sweeps though. nah, I didn't feel it until afterward.

I carry a folder on me. I can sterilize it in our kitchen. I will try that next time.

Have you looked into Tom Patire's CDT training? I took a seminar years ago, and the techniques were brutally effective, simple, and safe. Safe, meaning that the techniques were specifically designed with liability in mind. How you handle the situation not only physically, but verbally as well to make sure that witnesses see that you are not the aggressor. It was designed for bodyguards, bouncers, and hospital workers and security. Pretty cool stuff in my opinion.

You really don't want to do that. Cauterizing something like that will make extremely bad scarring.

Collar choke from mount?

You try a standing RNC on me and I'll throw you or take you down and put you in a knee bar! :D

Nice job, by the way.

habit. I can sweep from half guard, but my half guard is weak, so whenever I am in it, I try to pull a full guard before I get passed.

Nice Job Seven... I'm the same way...if i ever get into half guard i immediately go for full, i feel much more comfortable there. Although my brother did this one thing while he had me in his half that hurt like crazy, and i dont know if its a real technique or not, but it worked!

OK so he's got me in his half...let's say he's trapping my right leg (he was)...he takes HIS left leg and puts it so the bottom of his foot faces right..so his leg is at a 90 degree angle or so ontop of mine...his right leg is on top of his left . Hope your still with me so far...

And then he takes his right foot (bare..can't imagine with shoes on)...and puts it on the back of my calf (near the top or middle top) and pushes it down towards my ankle...i couldn't even move it (i got hairy legs so he had extra traction) But it was mad painful and almost had me paralyzed...i had to submit, i couldn't do anything and he had my arms controlled. Ever heard of a technique like that?

If I'm picturing it correctly, I have never heard of that - I'll get KF to look at this thread and see if he knows.

As a child I did a wheelie on my bike and came off the back - skidding on my knees for a couple of feet. Ouch! Talk about scraping knees!

That's one version of the lockdown... kind of a half lockdown. It's not usually a submission against someone skilled, but more of a transition into the full lockdown or into an open lockdown.

The full lock down has the right foot underneath the opponent's shin/ankle area and both legs extended.

I've seen newbies occasionally freak out and get submitted off the full lockdown.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone tapping from what he is describing.

Just wanted to make sure you knew. Didn't think you'd really try it, but just in case.

Having spent time around crazy aussies, I'm pretty sure they'd try it just to see what it felt like.

There IS a purpose to cautery like that if you have a deep flesh wound and can't stop the bleeding in emergency situations, but you don't really need to do it for scrapes. (Unless you have no antibiotics and are away from medical care, and it starts to fester badly).

No, I haven't. I just checked out the CDT website though, and see some interesting courses.

EDIT: I kept searching and found an article talking about his use of nervous system KOs in his LRT system. Now I am skeptical. CDT sounds good at the glance I took, though.

Dude, you lose 2 points of street cred for whining about elbow scrapes.

the worst part is you got a lot of street cred points back for falling down an elevator shaft on top of a guy.

One night I came home really drunk.
CPA and a friend were with me. For some strange reason we began wrestling in the street, and being drunk I pulled in our friend who was an innocent bystander.
We almost got hit by a car and decided to go inside...
I woke up the next morning with road rash on my face and arms and couldnt remember why.
Good times.

i'm not whining. the sole motivation behind the post was for the guys here who always say that 'grappling on concrete = death' to read. I'm not dead and this is the second incident of grappling on concrete that I have posted.

if anything, I shoulda lost cred for all the geekiness I posted on the thread about the history of 'pwn'...

now that I think about it, I scraped my left elbow in both incidents. maybe it should be said that whenever you grapple on concrete, you will scrape your left elbow?

in addition to those, I fought three guys at once, knocked two down, one of them KOed, fought transvestites, helped takedown someone who stabbed my co-worker, seen a guy get his throat cut, etc. And this is just in the past 7 months or so.

Does anybody here remember 7* starting a thread about fighting transvestites? We all want to hear that one.:D

And if any of them were cute transvestites, send their contact info to RD. Maybe his aura of insanity won't affect them like it does real wimins.
