It also shows how good judoka used to be at ne waza (ground fighting), it was in the middle of the 20th century that sport judo changed the rules to allow less ground work (they figured the stand up action was more spectator friendly, which I agree with them). Judo and BJJ are very closely related.

Kosen Judo still dedicates itself to ground work, about 90% of it is ground work.
Kodokan judo is make the transition back to a balance of nage and ne waza.
"combat" judo gives an equal proportion of striking, standing grappling, throwing and ground work.
