Jade Empire... hands down. Even though the martial arts in it are fantasy its still wicked cool. You can choose to be nice(Way of the Open Palm) or mean (Way of the Closed Fist). You level up by doing tasks and beating opponents, this gives you style points which allow you to upgrade your styles.

check it out on the web if you haven't heard about it or to find out more.

Its an Xbox game.

There's also a PC version out. It's a "special edition" so it may have some extra goodies!

Ya, it has two new styles, iron palm(im pretty sure) and viper style.

I don't like mortal kombat that much, although deadly alliance kinda inspired me to take martial arts(so did a lot of other stuff), with the authentic martial arts they had in the game.

but now i realize that it is more about the "special moves" of each character than the actual martial arts fighting.

I haven't played any new games in the last few years, but I used to like the weapon katas on Soul Calibur as they resembled the wushu I was taking at the time. It makes me wonder if they based the katas off of actual competition compulsory forms.

Here are some of the better ones:

Xiangua (Jian): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13uU-zr1jqI

Yun-Seong (Broadsword): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWkJOd-SSE8

Tira (not sure what you'd call this -- bladed hula hoop?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k8p33SHkQU

Yeah, they're based on some competition forms, at least the some of the staff/spear and sword ones are. I somehow doubt the giant hammer/sword ones are, but who knows.

Although I never played Jade Empire because I don't have an Xbox, they are supposed to be releasing a sequel on Xbox360. No idea when though.

yeargh! kung fu rules all.

You have to figure out the weakness of each character (challenge) and they get harder down the line. The fat dude, the sword dude, fan chick, tonfa dude, midget monks, sai dude, nunchuks dude.

I may be romanticizing it, but that's how I remember it. You could even kick the fat dude (buchu) in the nuts and his eyes would bulge out of his head. classic.
