with staph infection, does anybody know where to get a cheap rashguard?

MasterKiller
04-13-2007, 07:32 AM
Wal-Mart has "under armor" rash guards for like $12.

I got staph about 8 months ago, so I always wear long sleeves now....

bodhitree
04-13-2007, 07:39 AM
wall mart, the big red H, you're just a good old red state boy aren't you;)

Sounds good. How did yours clear up? mine is hidden by my gi, and I always wear a shirt under my gi now, but after one round of antibiotics it has not cleared up, and I have to go back to the doctor. rrggghhh:mad:

MasterKiller
04-13-2007, 07:44 AM
I caught it quick, so it wasn't that bad.

Antibiotics cleared it up after about 7 days, but you are not infectious anymore after the first 24 hours on antibiotics (at least that's what my doctor said).

I taped up the exposed areas (my wrists) anyway just to be safe.

One of our guys was misdiagnosed by a military doctor, and the infection swelled up his arm and he had to have it drained. He missed about 3 months.

I have it on my stomach:( I actually think I got it from yoga mats at the local Y.

Royal Dragon

Do you guys have weak immune systems or something? I've slid down dirt embankments, given myself massive abraisions from it, with dirt packed into and ground into the wound, ended up in a smelly slimy creek, and had to hike 2 hours back out, played with poision oak, and poison ivy (other members of that trip got it bad, nothing on me), before i could attend to the wound, with no infections at all. and you get it from a Yoga mat?

staph
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staph
http://www.webmd.com/search/search_results/default.aspx?query=staph+infection
is found mostly in humans and in environments like hospitals, gyms, and the like (which is why it's common in grapplers). found in trace amounts in the nasal cavity of most people.

At the clubs I attend we mop the mats with bleach before every class. As a kung fu guy, you probably wouldn't get it.

BruceSteveRoy

you know they say that stronger immune systems are a result of living in an environment that is more dangerous to your health. like the way rats immune systems are the most effective in the world due to the fact that they live in sewers and dumpsters. so RD about your uber immune system ... is this you?

http://www.citynoise.org/upload/940.jpg

have you been living in a dumpster?:p

Royal Dragon
04-13-2007, 08:19 AM
No, not really, but I really don't understand the whole "don't drink from the river" thing everyone allways tells me when we go out hiking either. I mean, if it's clear running water, I don't see an issue...or why others get sick and I don't.

I mean, it's not like anyone ever cleans the water mains, or the pipes that bring water to your house...

I think the problem is that people don't get out to mother nature and roll in the dirt enough.

Royal Dragon
04-13-2007, 08:22 AM
I also don't understand why guys from the shop go to the imediate care center when they get cut open either..I used to just rub shop dirt into the wound, and stitch it up myself and be back to work in an hour. Never once had an infection...although it could be argued that shop dirt is toxic, and thearfore makes a good topical antibiotic. :p

I used to install carpet, I'd get cut with 20 year old rusty tacks and nails everyday and never got an infection. I'd wrap it with toilet paper and duct tape. That doesn't say anything about your immune system.

bodhitree
04-13-2007, 08:40 AM
or maybe it's your qigong.

Royal Dragon
04-13-2007, 08:45 AM
It says a lot about your imune system. it's like an ER nurse who gets exposed to all sorts of nasty things day in, and day out and never gets sick, but a career cubicle dweller gets sneazed on once, and is sick for a week and a half...

I wish it was warm out here, i'd do my work at the park, then get some practice in after.

There is nothing better than going down to the waterfall with a briefcase and my hammock. I set up, kick back by the tree and work on my laptop, then practice, and lastly nap while everyone else is stuck in thier cubicles!! :D

Haven't you guys been following the Karl Rove/RNC email scandal involving the judge dismissals?

It depends upon the system. Emails on work email are of course all logged, but it's doubtful most places have the bandwidth to log every bit of email traffic that goes through your personal email, like Yahoo and stuff.

Most corporations run something like WebSense that filters certain sites and logs traffic, but it's highly doubtful they'd log everything that went to/from, just the site that was hit and some other info like who you are.

Plus, if you check out the JavaScript for Yahoo login, it encrypts the username/password before it sends it over even if you use SSL. At least it did when I checked it a while back.

If the username/password is included in the URL parameters then it could be logged but usually it's sent over in CGI post.

But somebody could still snoop your personal traffic if they were on your network if you don't use SSL.
