Ok. I've been taking Hung Gar for a little bit now, and now my Sigong has branched in two and is also showing me Forms of the five family style.
It's supposed to be a combination of the five Guangdong family styles into one.
I'm really enjoying it, and want to know more.
Does any body have more information on this style?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I do Five Family. :) Learned it here in L.A. from a student of Ark Wong. The basics are pretty standard Southern Shaolin...lots of emphasis on a deep, strong horse and bridging techniques. The footwork and blocking drills are the core of the system, and when done properly are quite internal. We were taught five small animal forms before progressing to the long ones. Fighting strategy is pretty simple and straightforward; close with the enemy and smother his attacking weapons while pummeling him with strikes and elbows. Even though my main art is Hsing-i, the Ng Ga supplies excellent gong lik training and a viable framework for developing techniques.

Hope that helps somewhat. For a more thorough outline, southern5.com would be a good reference point.

cheers bro, and happy training !!

Do they ever break down the forms/moves as to where comes from what? As a Lau Gar practioner, be interesting to see the LG moves in the Five Families Style...

It can be done, however we learned it in more of a "do this, now do that" kind of approach. Meaning that the 5 Family/5 Animals were all taught as one system. I do remember there being a separate Lau Ga form taught at the advanced level, and a chopstick form, but I never made it that far. LOL
