Quote from article on Iron *****
"When you wake up in the morning, do not urinate. Instead, exercise to sweat it out"
First of all urine is a waste product secreted by your kidney's, sweat isn't necessarily a waste product and and second of all you can't sweat out your scretions from your kidney. I don't care what you believe in whether it's Western medicine or Eastern medicine it can't be done. You can't sweat out your urine. YOU need be careful what you write. I don't mean to be rude, but some people believe what they read without doing any research on it themselves. You have a responsibility to your readers, and someone could really hurt themselves.

I don't think you should sweat out your urine either but I think that article was not intended to be a instructional tool on that technique. I think anyone who seriously tries to learn iron ***** from a magazine should reevaluate their who training process.

How, then does the urine (or at least urea) get into sweat? I don't know the answer...

I doubt anyone could really hurt themselves by holding their pee in the morning. They might stain their underpants, but really, I don't think this is our responsiblity. Of course, when somebody tries to sue us for their laundry bill, I'll eat these words (and I'll let you know...)

Far be it from me to question Master's Tu's method - I'm certainly skeptical about him, especially the coconut breaking, but he is very well versed in TCM and I beleive that it was from this standpoint he was making his statement. The morning urine statement was certainly the strangest - other TCM people have commmented but not negatively. An acupuncturist friend raised an eyebrow and said he'd have to look into it. ;)

I read in a book overseas (forget which book) that some old-time "internal" practitioners emphasized their belief that in the morning one should not urinate or defecate until they have trained hard first. They thought that letting it out would lose your chi. (!!!)I didn't believe that when I read it and I still don't. (the author of that book, as I remember, was refuting the belief, too).

I also thought the statement in the magazine about instead of urinating sweating it out was B.S. Once urine is in your bladder there is no way that it can be excreted as sweat. I have seen him perform some martial arts when I lived in Taiwan, so I know the guy can move. But when I read that statement it makes his other claims very suspect.

When were you in Taiwan and what did you see of Tu? He's supposed to come to CA again soon and give seminars. You'd be amazed how many people ask me about how to do his training. It's not something I train personally.

Personally, passing body fluids through my ***** is one of my favortie activites, so I heed the call whenever I hear it -- maybe that's why my practice is so weak

I lived in Taiwan from 1985 to the end of 1992. I saw Tu perform a set (no ***** kung) during a competition that was held at Wen Hua Da Hsueh (Chinese Cultural University). I can't be sure of the year, maybe '89 or '90. The competition was for who would be picked for Taiwan's first standardized Wushu team for the Asian Olympics, I believe. The set he did was the standardized Nanquan set. I don't think he made the team (?), and I saw others do it much better. Then again, it looked like standardized Wushu was still VERY new in Taiwan at that point.

Cool. He was a classmate of Dr. Danny Weng, who comes by the office here all the time. Did you even hear of his iron crotch before my article?

Yes, I remember hearing about him hanging weights from his balls or something. Also remember seeing a full-color ad for him in a martial arts shop in Taipei (Ta Chung Martial Arts Supply) that claimed he had yi chih chan(sp?). (had a photo of him about to stick his index finger through a coconut or something(??).

Other than that, I really did not see much of him. My late Mantis sifu, Peng Han-Ping, had told me that Tu hung weights from his balls but he personally didn't believe it, because he felt they tied the rope or string around the waist, making it look like it hangs on the balls, then wear a towel over it all. I can't tell either way and don't really want to see it.

My phone has been ringing off the hook about people wanting to get in contact with Tu and train under him. Go figure....

Seriously, everyone stop calling me about this. If Tu comes through like he said he would, I'll post it on the calendar at KungfuMagazine.com

This kind of training makes me think of the testicle weight lifting that is advocated by Mantak Chia. I thought the article was pretty well presented though no way in hell am I going to be doing that to my genitals.

I remember that there were some articles about this kind of training, I think the subject was mentioned by that Splashing Hands/Hsing Yi Sifu. I can't remember his name, sifu McNeil?

Anyway, anyone from Mantak Chia's group see any similarities?
