I want to create a specific thread devoted to gear and training equipment, people's reviews and recommendations.

I know you tend to get what you pay for, but sometimes things are way overpriced, or once in awhile, good gear may come at reasonable prices.

I'm looking to get some Thai pads in bulk, and my pair of Windy pads for my own training was $140. I'd like to find something less expensive.

I have Centurey Thai Pads, but I like the straps on the windy ones shown better. I like nice thick velcro and rings as opposed to thinner leather with buckles.
However, I have a wholesale acct with century so i get them for about half price, so it's a deciding factor.

also look into aries-I believe they are the manufacturer for TiGear-sold through Tiger Shullman's,Title also has good prices. I have found Kwon to not be durable.
anyone know where to get the Daidojuko or whatever they call it gear? I am always looking for good full contact headgear.

The original versions were crap. Our new model (http://www.martialartsmart.net/vinthaisstri.html)is much improved. I wouldn't say that our Thai pads are top of the line by any means, but for a lower-priced pad, it's serviceable.

The best Thai pads (sorry Gene) are Fairtex, but they are frequently out of stock and expensive as all heck

I now use the Everlast ones for regular students, my fighters use windy or thaismai

If you are running a fighting gym, open an account with combat sports international..... sorry Gene!

Tiger Shullman's Thai pads are about as expensive as Windy's. But maybe their other gear is cheaper.

TT - So about $30 for one of those Century Thai Pads? not bad. Are you talking about this: http://www.daidojuku.com/eng/graphics/shop/yamazaki01.jpg

LKFMDC - do you know off hand how much of a discount you get (if you get one at all) with an account with Combat Sports International?

I don't know off hand... once you set up an account you sort of just order and know you are getting a discount :p

These are "thai pads"

used for drilling technique

Do NOT use face shields!!!!!

Head gear is to prevent cuts and death if you get KO'ed (unlikely to ever happen in sparring, but the cuts can happen a lot). Use USA boxign standard head gear (ie boxing head gear), oepn faced, no cheek protectors so you can see! Fightgear is a sub division of Ringside, best head gear

Sweet - any discount at all is nice. I love those pads. That's exactly the kind I have. Wow, seeing the retail price, I realize that I got a nice break on the price.

I'll have to look into Everlast, since you recommended them (for regular students).

Everlast "MMA Thai pads" I think they are called, good for regular students because they aren't huge and overstuffed

I don't know about the wholesale cost, but retail they cost just about as much as the combat sports ones.

I use these:

Everlast never answers their **** phone so I actually use Title to order the pads

http://store.titleboxing.com/everlast-mma-thai-pads.html

you can get a deal if you order in volume

I'm small time and have to nickel and dime it. One set a month.

What do the Chinese characters on the pads say?

The combat sports ones are bulkier and heavier, so for smaller men and women, not so good, that's why I use the everlast ones (medium size)

one of my sparring instructors uses headgear by a comapny called Top Ten.

He said its the best one he has used bcause it is lighter and less bulky that alot of other brands he has used but still offers just as much protection. i could be wrong but i think he said it is used in the olympics. His only criticism of it was that it is a expensive. i want to buy one but i can't justify the cost when the one i have is in good shape o well guess i have to go out and get punched in the head til its worn out. or go around head butting things in it. :D

Amber Sporting Goods (http://ambersports.com/) sells leather products wholesale to the public.

XL Thai Kick Pads (http://www.ambersports.com/muaythakicpa1.html) $80 per pair

Regular Thai Kick Pads (http://www.ambersports.com/muaythakicpa.html) $70 per pair

My friend and I bought a pair of the regular ones. They're good quality.

If you want to buy in bulk and you call and talk to them they will probably hook you up. I bought a heavy bag from them YEARS ago and they threw in a free chain (normally $10 extra) because I asked.
