I have heard about James Wing Woo being one of the real old-timers of kung fu in the USA. I remember an article that IKF did on him back in 1990.

Does anyone know what style of kung fu he teaches? Is it any one particular style?

That name sounded familiar, and I thought that it had something to do with Ralph Castro's Shaolin Kenpo(Shaolin Chuan Fa). So I googled it, and it seems at some point he had a connection with Ed Parker which was Ralph Castro's classmate.

Here's what I found.

IIRC, Jimmy woo was a CLF practitioner of hung sing CLF, associated with Lau Bun in SF Chinatown. He was a key player in helping Ed to make and formalize his 'forms/sets'. Will Tracy wrote some articles about this:

Interesting read if nothing else. I've heard two stories about what happened when they split. One is the one accounted by the tracy's and another stating that Woo split with Ed and took students with him deliberately. What the true is, who knows exactly. There is also a thread in the southern forum about Kenpo and the CLF connection as well.

Also note: there are two jimmy woo's- James Wing Woo (the person we are talking about and the one that helped EP) and the one of the kung fu sansoo background.

Greetings,

James Wing Woo DID play one of the Four Ancestors (Four Fathers?) in Leathal Weapon 4. I remember seeing him in the flick. Here's confirmation:

You have a good eye. Do you have people involved in law enforcement in your family?
