Hey guys I created a Shaolin Comic hero. The first issue is a mini comic(more like an intro and telling of his origin). I am almost finished if anybody would like to have one let me know. The first issue is free cause it's a promo(it's short). I may also publish it on my site in the near future. If anybody's interested in it let me know.

Gene I want to send it to you cause I think you might like the theme so if I send it to Kungfu magazine address with your name on it you will get it right?

Sounds cool shaolin_dynasty.
Wouldn't it be cheaper JUST to publish it on your website?

At least for the promo. Each regular issue is going to have to cost at least a dollar or two though. I drew alot in high school but the amount of work it takes to put together a comic is huge. It wouldn't seem so but it is so I may have to "hire"(qoutes cause I won't pay much) help. As a matter of fact once I get the character established I may take storyline submitions. I don't think this will go to far though selling things has never been my strong point.

Keep us updated. I'd love to check it out if you put it on your site, but I'd feel bad asking you to send it to me for free. If you're REALLY gonna go for publication, I'd say put it on the website and build a following. THEN start charging for every other issue (gauging response), finally, go all out charging for each monthly (or bimonthly) installment.
Just my suggestion.
Good luck.

Are you crazy? ;) That would be way to much work I just finished making up my fall/winter schedule for teaching and training and I will be to busy for that but I will continue to do what I can. I will probally just make it a strip like in a newspaper and publish it on my site that would take alot less work, this is more a hobby for me than anything else. So I'll keep you guys posted.

Sure - send it to me. I love stuff like that. Our senior graphic artist Patrick Lugo does comics and wrote Tiger's Tale for many years here. He admins the martial media forum...

I would love to have a look at what you've created..

publishing it as a 'zine is still quite an accoplishment:

'Zine (N): A self published periodical of usually 4 or more pages photo-coppied or printed on a minimal budget and usually produced ina quantity equal to demand.

Aside from Tiger's Tale (http://www.tigerstale.com) I was also involved in a few VERY low budget indi comics published out of New York...

By Double Edge publishing... if any of you comic geeks happen to recognise that... let me know...

Otherwise... YEAH I would love to check it out...

Yeah when I finished it I looked it over and I wasn't satisfied with the direction it was going so I'm going to ugh redo it. But right know I am putting together a website with the characters, background story etc. Should be out in a week. After that when I refinish ugh the first strip(since it will be a zine I am only going to do strips) I will publish it on the site. Love the style of lettering in the tiger's tale strip is that free hand? I tried doing the lettering with my computer it looked good at first but it lacks personality. I'd love to do mine in color it would have been too expensive in paper form but I probally will do it in the zine form.

Hey Design Sifu, if you have some extra time on your hands I would love to see a tiger tale style version of some of my characters just for kicks.

I'll take one.

My deep dark secret is that I used to work in funny books, and still dabble a little behind the scenes for my friends.

Hey Monkey Slap... what books did you work for... perhaps I'm familuar with your work???

ShaolinD... am totally curious about your effort... If you're really curious about publishing a paper version, it's something I have slightly more than a passing knowledge of... let's chat!!!

Been working on updating Tiger's Tale (http://www.tigerstale.com) & will hopefully begin a Flash based animated version up and available by next year...

So, do any of you miss having tiger's Tale as a regular feature in the Magazine? Or is it just me???

Perhaps we could all conspire to create KUNGFU comics!!! :p

Cool tell you what Design Sifu, I like your work on Tiger's Tale wouldn't be cool to create a company of martial arts related comics? A paper version is my goal but I am not to sure how to go about it. My project got delayed for awhile I had to scrap the original because I was unsatisfied(good thing I don't have a deadline hehe). But people have shown me interest so I will get back to some serious work. It should be ready for the web within the month. Hey anybody else interested in developing a MA related comic universe?

That would be awesome SD. If you'll print it, I'd probably buy it and tell my friends. And, yes, I greatly enjoyed "Tiger's Tale" Design Sifu.

If someone would tell me how to put pics on here I could give a sneak preview.

Design Sifu why did they stop the Tiger's tale? What advice can you give me? Any pitfalls to avoid?

Yup....interested indeed. I already have characters and all kinds of stuff. All I really need is perhaps someone who can give me creative help when I write myself into a corner... :p

Maybe the good folks at Kungfu Qigong magazine could help us out. Think about it a bimonthly mag full of great Kungfu comics! What about it guys!

Don't even think any of you could get past Designsifu's comic fist.
Tiger's Tale was the longest running martial arts comic in the martial arts magazine realm. Other magazines tried, but none could get past a few months of run. We discontinued running it last year when we were opening up web publishing. It was moved to the web, but that became a huge project in itself and TT has been on hold. Designsifu has been working on some flash animations for us (among other things) so keep an eye out for new developments....
