Does Ch'an improve your shaolin performance? I know anything that improves buddha-nature improves focus, enery, and internal strength.

Long live the glorious spiritual arts of shaolin!

if you think that Ch'an is about improving performance, then you have woefully misunderstood the entire point of the practice

I think any practice that works towards the end of desire and attachment would help in a fight, especially considering that it might help you avoid the fight in the first place.

But even if it came down to having to defend yourself, I think that being free of worry, anger and ego would help you stay clear-headed (those being the emotions that I recall interfering with my ability to stay clear-headed when I think back to the fights and near fights that I've been involved in).

Personally, I've used Chan meditation in combination with yogist Tantra practices to improve my hip flexibility for sexual mobility. I think Chan can improve every facet of your daily life, and I apply that mentality to the sentence I'm writing right now.
